Fill-In Producer (multiple openings)
About This Opportunity
Reporting to the News Director, the Fill-In-Producer is responsible for producing KUOW's variety of on-demand and broadcast shows. This is a Limited-Term, Hourly temporary position anticipated to be up to 12 months in duration; hours will vary. Must be able to work a varied schedule when required, including some evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Produce for KUOW's digital and broadcast shows (60%)
- Back up staff producers
- Work closely with different show leads and teams to support show production
- Monitor multiple sources for news; suggest stories for coverage
- Mix and upload audio files
- Pitch and produce original stories for broadcast and podcast shows (30%)
- Create field recordings and conduct interviews
- Write and update stories for online audience
- Book guests, provide background research
- Provide production support for on-air fundraising drives (10%)
- Support internal station initiatives
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two years of professional journalism experience. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of full cycle reporting
- Strong writing, editing, and production for broadcast and digital
- Sound design and audio storytelling
- Journalism best practices
- The mission of public radio journalism and a deep commitment to it
Working Conditions
- Duties may occasionally require evening and weekend work when necessary to meet critical deadlines, especially during election cycles
- Ability to travel when necessary to meet with sources and to attend station events
- Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions
- Position is suitable/eligible for Hybrid/Occasional Telework
Pay
$36.24 hourly
