About the role
As a Field Training & Apprenticeship Specialist for PCL Industrial Construction Co. in Abilene, Texas, you’ll identify workforce development needs, facilitate hands-on learning experiences, and partner with field leaders to build a highly skilled, productive, and safety-focused craft workforce.
Responsibilities
- Support the delivery and growth of PCL's Registered Apprenticeship Program and craft development initiatives.
- Coordinate and facilitate apprenticeship cohorts, including classroom instruction, hands-on training, apprentice engagement, and progression support.
- Deliver NCCER curriculum and practical field training that prepares employees for long-term craft career success.
- Help apprentices connect classroom learning, On-the-Job Learning (OJL), skill development, and workforce qualification requirements.
- Assist with apprenticeship onboarding, orientation, progression reviews, testing readiness, and program completion activities.
- Develop and maintain training materials, lesson plans, instructor guides, practical exercises, qualification packets, and workforce development resources.
- Partner with craft professionals, instructors, mentors, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure training content remains accurate, practical, and relevant to field operations.
- Provide classroom, shop, and field-based instruction for apprentices and craft employees.
- Facilitate NCCER training, testing, and performance verification activities within assigned credentials and authorizations.
- Support craft qualification programs, equipment qualification initiatives, and workforce readiness activities.
- Assist with the recruitment, development, and support of instructors, mentors, evaluators, and Subject Matter Experts.
- Promote apprenticeship, workforce development, and employee career progression opportunities throughout the organization.
- Support the expansion of apprenticeship and craft training programs into additional crafts and project locations.
- Maintain training records, apprentice progression documentation, qualification records, testing records, and other required training documentation.
- Travel to project locations as needed to support apprenticeship, workforce development, and training program delivery.
Qualifications
- Industrial construction experience.
- Journey-level craft experience preferred.
- Experience teaching, coaching, mentoring, or facilitating adult learning.
- Experience supporting apprenticeship programs or workforce development initiatives.
- NCCER Instructor Certification preferred.
- NCCER Proctor, Evaluator, Performance Verifier, APE, or CPE credentials preferred.
- Experience developing training materials or lesson plans.
- Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel to support project and workforce development needs.

Primary location: Abilene, Texas
