About the role

As a Field Technician at Hunter Communications, you’ll be installing our internet and other services into customers’ homes and businesses, along with occasional service calls and repairs. This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work with urgency to complete jobs in a timely manner. Most work is outdoors, year-round, in all weather conditions, and involves climbing ladders, telephone poles, and working from bucket trucks.

The Field Technician performs installations, maintenance, and repairs for wireless, fiber, coax, voice, apps, and streaming services at single-family homes, apartment complexes, and businesses ranging from small offices to hospitals. A professional presence is required at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new installations, reconnects, upgrades, and disconnects for internet and phone services, including wireless, fiber, coax, voice, apps, and streaming.
  • Install services to Hunter Communications standards, including relocating cable outlets, adding routers/modems, and interior/exterior wiring.
  • Work from a 32-foot ladder, bucket truck, or telephone pole at heights up to 35 feet.
  • Maintain and repair the network and customer services.
  • Complete training and strictly adhere to all safety standards and policies.
  • Provide first-class customer service, including detailed education on products.
  • Assist in training new Field Technicians (with adjusted workload).
  • Climb communications towers up to 500 feet (safety training and certification provided).
  • Occasional out-of-town travel and on-call rotation required.

Requirements

  • Telecommunications experience preferred but not required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to be on call as needed, including nights and holidays.
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record (no tickets for speed in excess of 20 mph or DUII in the last 5 years).
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. and carry extension ladders up to 32’.
  • Ability to operate electric and standard hand tools.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, crawling, climbing, and twisting for prolonged periods.
  • Use of hands and fingers to handle tools and objects; ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Close vision and ability to adjust focus; ability to distinguish colors in graphs/charts.
  • Must communicate clearly and be understood; ability to interact with employees and customers.

Working Conditions

  • Work inside buildings and outside in various weather conditions.
  • Comfort with heights, including working from ladders, bucket trucks, or telephone poles at heights up to 35 feet.
  • Comfort working in confined spaces, such as attics and basements.
  • Ability to install and use traffic control devices in roadways.
  • Tower climbing on communications sites, including telephone poles, monopoles, and large structures up to 500 feet.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a working schedule of 10-hour days, 4 days a week (Wednesday–Saturday). Occasional travel to other markets across Oregon and Northern California for a week at a time is required. A rotating on-call schedule may include weekend work and overtime.

Pay

This position pays from $21.00 to $34.50 per hour, depending on experience. All travel expenses are covered with a per diem when travel is required. Additional hourly rate increases and benefits occur as you advance through our Field Technician training program.
