Field Technician, SUE
About the role
CobbFendley is seeking an experienced SUE Field Technician in our Englewood, Colorado Office.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine assignments with or without supervision.
- Provide guidance to less experienced staff.

- Coordinate with project managers and internal teams.
- May operate a variety of vehicles, including large vehicles with or without attached trailers, as needed to support specific operational tasks, and perform routine maintenance to ensure safe and efficient use.
- May cross train to perform other field services (Telecommunications, Survey, SUE).
- Perform hazard analysis before performing field work and prepare safety documents under supervision.
- Comply with all safety procedures: Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Emergency Action Plans (EAP), and Project Safety Plans (PSP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures.
- Identify and evaluate potential hazards in the work environment.
- Properly select and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Understand Traffic Control Plans (TCP).
- Be familiar with Federal, State, and local codes, regulations, and standards governing projects in their respective field.
- Perform mid-level tasks in Air and Hydro Vacuum Excavation (SUE Locating), ensuring safe and effective exposure of underground utilities.
- Utilize utility locating methods to identify buried infrastructure including telephone, fiber optic, coaxial cable, electric power, gas, water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems.
- Interpret DOT, municipal, and other technical plans/prints to determine the type and size of underground utilities.
- Operate or support vacuum truck operations during excavation and utility locating processes.
- Locate, designate, and mark underground utilities via all quality levels within prescribed quality/accuracy limits.
- Perform Level A (QL-A) SUE locating via nondestructive techniques (i.e., digging potholes and soil excavation, etc.) with a high-pressure air/hydro wand, concrete saws, core drills, and vacuum hose systems to determine precise horizontal, vertical position, size, and type of underground utilities.
- Perform Level B (QL-B) SUE designating via electromagnetic equipment (pipe/cable locators) to determine existence and horizontal position of underground utilities.
- Perform Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning when included as part of the scope.
- Document estimated electronic depth (ED) readings.
- Document site conditions and SUE information via photographs and/or video.
- Perform video inspections of sewers when necessary.
- Manage as a Project Lead on small to mid-size SUE projects.
- Troubleshoot all utility types with regard to geophysical equipment.
Qualifications
- Proficient // Solid understanding and practical experience; capable of working independently with growing efficiency.
- 4+ years of professional experience in the field.
- Knowledge of field operations, methods, procedures, safety requirements, and environmental considerations associated with civil infrastructure work in outdoor settings.
- Skills include use of industry-standard tools, equipment, and computer software to perform field tasks, document work, and communicate effectively.
- Able to safely operate required equipment, travel locally, regionally, and interstate, with occasional overnight stays, and perform work in varying weather, terrain, and environmental conditions.

Pay
Competitive compensation package.
Schedule
Full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, with potential for overtime.
