Essential Responsibilities & Expectations
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, steering, cooling, and control systems using approved tools and procedures
- Remove, install, disassemble, reassemble, adjust, and replace engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical components, including major assemblies
- Lead and execute complex repairs and major component replacements with minimal supervision
- Perform preventive maintenance services in accordance with factory guidelines and specifications
- Conduct system testing and operational checks, including sea trials when applicable, to verify repair quality and equipment readiness
- Accurately order, receive, and return parts for assigned jobs in a timely and organized manner
- Read, interpret, and apply service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, service bulletins, and electronic service information systems
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and on-the-job support to junior and mid-level technicians
- Assist other technicians during field service operations as required
- Work independently or collaboratively as part of a field service team
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain flexibility to support overnight, weekend, holiday, and out-of-town service assignments
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Preferred six (6) years’ work experience involving mechanical repairs or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education is required.
- Experience using personal computers and basic typing skills are required.
- OEM certifications related to marine engines, power systems, propulsion, or auxiliary equipment; manufacturer training strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with marine electronics, hydraulic systems, and vessel control systems, including diagnostics, repair, calibration, and installation.
- Working knowledge of computerized diagnostic tools and maintenance management systems to support troubleshooting, service documentation, and preventive maintenance programs.
Skills and Competencies
- Advanced engine and electrical diagnostic and repair skills, including the ability to independently troubleshoot complex system faults and implement effective corrective actions
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to accurately document diagnostics, repairs, service activities, and technical findings in work orders, reports, and electronic service systems
- Proficient computer skills, including the effective use of electronic service information systems, diagnostic software, parts ordering platforms, and standard business applications
