Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead and support SUE field operations under the supervision of Project Manager or assigned Supervisor.
- Perform utility designating, vacuum excavation activities, and survey support (as needed).
- Lead and support SUE office activities to include reviewing utility records, contacting utility owners, providing status reports, and performing QA/QC.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve operational processes and identify solutions to recurring issues.
- Provide guidance and technical support to lower-level field technicians.
- Provide input on process improvement to increase efficiency and quality of work.
- Manage field data, take quality notes, document problems, and coordinate with the project team to ensure project completion.
- Document all service activities, including repairs, installations, and inspections, in accordance with company protocols.
- Review and approve these items if field staff report directly to you, as applicable.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card for the purpose of driving non-CDL vacuum excavation trucks.
- Other training on equipment and safety may be requested as needed.
- Ensure safety and compliance with company and industry standards in all field operations.
- Access to a company-provided vehicle as the primary means of transportation for work-related activities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Required Competencies, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to pass criminal background and drug screens.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, small business environment.
- Familiarity with software and technology specific to the industry.
- Proficient organizational and time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 Suite or related software.
- Familiarity with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software and/or others of the like.
- Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
- A willingness to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiners Certificate to operate Company equipment up to 26,000 pounds is preferred.
Education And Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical or vocational training in utility locating or a related field is a plus.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a field technician role, preferably in the utility industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of utility systems (electricity, gas, water, or telecommunications).
- Familiarity with utility installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
Physical Requirements
- Sustain prolonged periods of work standing, walking, bending, stooping sitting, and other potential movements in varying weather conditions and terrains.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and physical environments.
- Ability to lift or carry 50+ pounds as needed.
- Ability to push and pull heavy equipment that may exceed 30+ pounds, as needed.
