Responsibilities
- Monitor and document construction activities at solid waste landfill facilities including field inspection and testing of soils and geosynthetic liners.
- Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel).
- Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representative, contractor’s representative and others as applicable regarding the construction site, project requirements, and testing, observation, and inspection requirements and results.
- Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observation in the form of written and digital reports as work is performed for daily transmittal to the Project Manager.
- Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
- Well field monitoring/tuning.
- Monitor a variety of elements including explosive gas, surface emission, liquid level, LFG flare, etc.
- Groundwater sampling using various sampling equipment and methodologies, including bailer, various pumps (low flow sampling), and passive sampling.
- Landfill leachate, surface water (streams and stormwater), gas (methane, CO2 and O2), and soil (VOCs) sampling.
- Oversight of soil borings (including detailed textural descriptions of soils).
- Monitor well/landfill gas probe installation.
- Sampling soil from Geoprobes and soil borings for various environmental contaminants, including VOCs, SVOCs, PCBs, Pesticides, Herbicides, and Metals/Inorganics.
- Adhere to strict safety standards.
- Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects.
- Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
- Pull and clean submersible pumps.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- Understand how to use on-site equipment.
Qualifications
- HS Diploma required; Associate’s in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- At least 1-2 years professional experience with the above activities strongly preferred, but candidates with a strong educational background and less professional experience will also be considered.
- Ability to travel out of town for project assignments at least 50% of time (remaining field sampling sites are local).
- Access to a reliable vehicle, valid Driver’s License, and safe driving record.
- Ability to follow detailed sampling and analysis plans.
- Strong understanding of and commitment to health and safety protocols.
- Willing to work outside, in a variety of climates, and be able to traverse tough terrain at times.
- Willing to work at active/closed landfills and industrial properties.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification a plus.
- Good communication, writing, and organization skills.
- Able to use basic computer applications like Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Able to lift 50 pounds required.

Pay
Position will be compensated on an hourly basis.
Schedule
Job schedule for most project work will be set well in advance by pre-determined sampling schedules in facility permits. The work schedule will not be evenly distributed throughout the year. Some weeks will likely result in overtime pay, while other weeks may comprise a standard 40 hours.
