Primary Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operations of a residential utility energy efficiency and home weatherization program, ensuring high-quality service delivery and a positive customer experience for eligible households.
- Generate and manage audit leads through door-to-door outreach and community-based engagement within assigned neighborhoods, representing the program professionally and in alignment with utility guidelines.
- Perform in-home and visual energy assessments of residential properties, evaluating HVAC systems, windows, doors, insulation, appliances, lighting, and other building components to identify energy efficiency opportunities.
- Educate residents on household energy use, comfort, health, and safety, and provide clear guidance on practical actions and utility incentives that can reduce energy costs.
- Prepare and deliver energy assessment reports with personalized recommendations, ensuring accurate documentation and data entry in program tracking systems.
- Install eligible no-cost or low-cost direct-install energy-saving measures in accordance with program requirements and safety protocols.
- Introduce and refer residents to additional utility-sponsored programs and services, supporting increased program participation and comprehensive energy savings.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the successful execution of program field operations.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in residential energy auditing, building science, weatherization, or utility-funded energy efficiency programs.
- Strong knowledge of residential energy audits, weatherization practices, and direct-install energy efficiency measures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and educate customers from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond to field-based challenges with professionalism and sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a field services team.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs, and working in various residential environments.
- Flexible availability, including occasional evenings and weekends based on customer and program needs.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening, as required by utility and program partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- BPI certification preferred. If not currently certified, MDEA will provide training and support to obtain BPI certification.
- A bachelor’s degree in Energy, Environmental Studies, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Experience supporting utility-sponsored energy efficiency or demand response programs for utilities, state or local governments, or nonprofit organizations.
- Prior experience with door-to-door outreach, customer acquisition, or lead generation in residential settings.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages commonly spoken in New Jersey communities) is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with New Jersey Clean Energy or other regional home weatherization and residential energy efficiency programs.
- Strong time-management skills and demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of field activities across multiple neighborhoods.
