We are looking for a self-starting Field Systems Engineer to deliver best-in-class customer service within an assigned geographic territory and, as needed, nationally. This remote role requires the ability to travel overnight on short notice, manage daily customer visits (50%+ driving), and participate in weekend/holiday rotational coverage.
Responsibilities
- Territory Management (60%)
- Respond promptly to customer needs, performing installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs using electronic and computer skills to ensure instruments meet specifications.
- Build trust with customers, promote service agreements, and identify sales opportunities for cross-functional teams.
- Foster teamwork across service and support teams while driving field service revenue through billable offerings like preventive maintenance and equipment moves.
- Travel & On-Call (10%)
- Attend 6–9 weeks of product training at Durham, NC or St. Louis, MO offices within the first year; future trainings as needed.
- Travel for scheduled and unscheduled customer visits, including overnight stays for wide territories and occasional national travel.
- Participate in weekend/holiday on-call rotation (~every 5 weeks), requiring local phone availability and potential national travel for instrument support.
- Administrative Responsibilities (20%)
- Complete service work orders, QA checklists, and internal training requirements accurately and on time.
- Maintain an up-to-date calendar of availability and submit travel expense reports regularly.
- Follow all company policies related to the use and upkeep of the assigned fleet vehicle.
- Other Related Duties (10%)
- Maintain spare parts inventory, company-issued vehicle, and all assigned equipment (e.g., laptop, tools, test devices) in good condition.
- Continuously improve technical and interpersonal skills, meet annual priorities, and collaborate with sales and applications teams.
- Represent bioMérieux professionally, support trade shows as needed, and provide feedback to enhance service capabilities.
- Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.
Requirements
- Education and Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronic Technology, Computer Science, Biomedical, or a related discipline.
- 4 years of related experience (including military) accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Valid driver’s license in state of residence.
- Experience
- 2+ years of related experience with a degree (or 6+ years without) in complex electro-mechanical, electronic, computer, or electrical systems.
- Experience troubleshooting/repairing biomedical, mechanical, electrical, vacuum systems, or similar systems strongly preferred.
- Experience operating independently, managing schedules, customer expectations, and communications preferred.
- Field service experience preferred.
- Experience with host/remote communications, network systems, or laboratory operations preferred.

Working Conditions
- Prolonged standing and ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, or ramps.
- Ability to wear PPE correctly for most of the day.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and adjust/move objects up to 50 pounds.
- Domestic travel required up to 90% of the time.
Pay
The estimated wage range for this field-based role in New Jersey is $40.70–$53.30 per hour, with eligibility for a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance.
