About the role

This is a hands-on technical role supporting the successful installation, startup, and operation of lighting control systems. You will work directly in the field, troubleshooting systems and providing end-user training to ensure reliable performance. The role combines technical expertise, customer service, and project coordination in a highly mobile environment. You will interpret lighting plans, floor plans, and project specifications to identify issues and ensure installations meet requirements. As a trusted technical resource, you will support internal teams, customers, contractors, and other stakeholders on complex field applications. The position offers significant autonomy and exposure to diverse projects, with approximately 90% travel from Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Perform onsite startup, troubleshooting, commissioning, and end-user training for lighting control systems, representing approximately 55% of the role.
  • Provide expert technical support to internal and external customers regarding field applications, product functionality, installation issues, and system performance.
  • Read and interpret lighting plans, floor plans, drawings, and specifications to verify installations and identify discrepancies requiring corrective action.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, project stakeholders, and internal teams to deliver differentiated technical service.
  • Support complex projects by investigating field issues, coordinating solutions, and helping drive projects through successful completion.
  • Provide engineering and technical support while communicating effectively with cross-functional departments.
  • Document field activities, troubleshooting outcomes, and relevant technical information using standard computer applications.
  • Deliver clear, professional training and guidance to end users so they can confidently operate and maintain installed systems.
  • Travel extensively to customer and project locations, primarily Monday through Friday, with weekends generally spent at home.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree, technical degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 1–2 years of relevant technical experience, with 2–4 years preferred in problem-solving, customer-facing, field service, or hands-on technical roles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical plans, lighting plans, drawings, and project specifications.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical components, including relays, drivers, ballasts, and related equipment.
  • General computer proficiency, including email, spreadsheets, word processing, data entry, and other standard business applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Understanding of lighting control systems is preferred, along with an interest in developing deeper expertise in lighting technology.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
  • Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating effectively with internal teams, customers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to meet a travel requirement of approximately 90%.
  • Candidates ideally reside in Texas, given the primary territory covering Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and surrounding areas.
