About the role
As a Field Services Technician, you will provide maintenance and repairs on a wide variety of solar and battery energy systems in the Tucson area and surrounding regions. This position is ideal for an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys travel, working independently, and is proactive and organized. You will travel to job sites daily or for several days in a row, with reimbursement for personal vehicle use.
Responsibilities
- Respond to dispatch tickets to maintain and repair solar and battery equipment, gaining familiarity with system operations through provided training and support.
- Test, analyze, and troubleshoot inverters, monitoring (DAS) systems, and other components of commercial and utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage facilities.
- Perform moderately complex but repetitive testing and troubleshooting.
- Use, maintain, and secure test devices and tools (e.g., meters, meggers, IV curve tracers, torque wrenches) for equipment adjustment, calibration, and repair.
- Complete digital documentation of fieldwork, including detailed notes, issue descriptions, and photos to communicate diagnoses and work completed.
- Submit required paperwork, such as time sheets, service orders, forms, inventory, expense reports, and equipment-related items.
- Handle warranty claims by receiving, replacing, packaging, and shipping components.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, vehicle, and equipment, including managing vehicle inventory and restocking as necessary.
- Adhere to NAES SAFE safety protocols, including mental alertness, following safety warnings, and complying with all company safety rules and procedures.
Requirements

- Solar industry experience is a plus but not required.
- Strong traveling skills with the ability to work self-sufficiently.

- Ability to develop detailed documentation and submit digital reports daily.
- Critical thinking skills for real-time or emergency situations.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a clean driving record; DOT driving license or ability to obtain is ideal.
Qualifications
- Fundamental knowledge of power and electrical systems.
- Data and communications knowledge.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Familiarity with smart devices.
- Working knowledge of system switching.
- Certification to operate a scissor lift and forklift or ability to become certified.
- NABCEP certification or other component-specific solar certifications (preferred).
- Ability to collaborate with other technicians or subcontracted personnel to resolve field issues.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior field personnel.
- Mechanical inclination and familiarity with hand/power tools.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Physically demanding work, frequently performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat (triple-digit temperatures) and cold (below freezing).
- Exposure to physical circumstances involving extensive climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and working in confined spaces.
- Requires both weekday and weekend work, sometimes involving rotational schedules or on-call status.
- Participation in the Fitness for Duty Program, including post-offer and random drug screening.
Pay
Initial hourly compensation ranges from $26.00 to $42.00, based on experience.
