About the role
As an IT Support Technician, you will provide direct end-user technical support for the Virginia Information Technology Agency (VITA) contract. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment, integrated systems, and software at client and field locations. You will instruct customers in equipment operation, provide technical assistance, perform preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot malfunctions to resolve issues efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical/IT support for the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Perform routine maintenance on customer assets
- Resolve all IT issues comprehensively and in a timely manner
- Handle system updates, ticketing, and asset management
- Perform break/fix software and hardware support, including OEM-certified warranty repair
- Execute asset disposal activities
- Train end users on new products and services
- Support remote end users, including shipping replacement devices and coordinating third-party hardware repair or onsite support
- Resolve issues involving business applications on-premise and in the cloud
- Provide remote and onsite/deskside support using remote administration tools
- Configure end-user devices and image Commonwealth devices
- Collaborate with vendors to provide technical insight
- Support Windows 10/11 and macOS, including software/application troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and system restorations
- Provide after-hours and weekend support as needed
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent, plus advanced training and 2+ years of experience
- Experience troubleshooting hardware (laptops/desktops) and software
- Experience with hardware diagnostics and replacement (e.g., motherboards, hard drives, keyboards)
- Ability to work independently or within a team
- Frequent travel required; reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are mandatory
- Ability to lift a maximum of 30 pounds
- Manual dexterity and ability to read asset tags
- Must pass a VITA background check
- Ability to obtain Department of Corrections, Virginia State Police, and Virginia Department of Transportation clearances
Skills
- A+ certification (preferred)
Schedule
- Approximately 50% travel between multiple customer sites, primarily in Buckingham and Louisa counties, with occasional travel to neighboring counties
- After-hours and weekend support may be required
Pay
The salary range for this position is $20–$27 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, education, location, contract requirements, and business needs.
