Job Summary

The Field Service Technician (NETA 4) is a project supervising technician responsible for performing complex investigations, tests, measurements, and evaluations. The role involves recommending corrective actions, interacting with engineers and managers, and testing for de-energized locked out/tagged out equipment. The technician is also responsible for setting up and removing test equipment, understanding hazardous electrical energy procedures, record keeping, safety of others, switching, evaluations, safety grounding, interacting with other skills and operations, writing and reviewing reports, and performing troubleshooting. The technician can work independently.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Makes sure project progress is monitored and assigned NETA field technicians are supervised.
  • Ensures project success from start to finish, including the final report.
  • Safeguards the efficiency and safety of work practices.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs complex electrical tests and measurements.
  • Collects and records data accurately.
  • Manages and leads projects, ensuring successful execution from start to finish.
  • Monitors project progress and supervises NETA field technicians assigned to projects.
  • Performs troubleshooting of electrical systems and recommends corrective actions.
  • Writes and reviews detailed reports on test results and findings.
  • Ensures reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.

Attributes/Abilities

  • Must have a satisfactory background/MVR check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and/or random drug test.
  • Must have reliable transportation and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Interpersonal and social skills; strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and attention to detail.

Experience And Education

  • A high school diploma/GED is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year technical college is preferred.
  • NETA certification level 4 is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience.
  • OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED, Power DB training is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional overtime as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Wears appropriate and mandated PPE including arc-flash suit, safety glasses, hard hat, respirator, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, etc.
  • Walks, stands, climbs, pulls, pushes, sits, and works in a cramped or confined space.
  • Potential low exposure to various conditions, including dirt, heat, fumes, smoke, water, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and dust.
