Field Service Technician Master
About the Role
Performs maintenance and repair activities on gas compression and/or process equipment at customer locations, acting as a subject matter expert for equipment in the assigned area. Mentors and teaches company maintenance standards to other team members.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe and well-organized work environment, modeling all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM) to standard without assistance.
- Handles most Call Outs (CO) independently, without technical expert support.
- Diagnoses and repairs mechanical problems on multiple types of equipment, including compressor packages, gas process, and power generation equipment.
- Leads teams performing Major Maintenance (MM), Overhaul, and MOB/DEMOB projects with limited to no assistance.
- Completes and submits required documentation accurately and on time.
- Performs other duties as assigned, ensuring compliance with Archrock’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Policy and local regulations.

Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform all essential duties independently.
- Expert-level diagnostic, troubleshooting, and repair skills for compressor packages, gas process, and power generation equipment.
- Performs scheduled or unscheduled maintenance without technical assistance.
- Writes detailed reports and leads teams on Major Maintenance, Overhaul, and MOB/DEMOB projects.
- Performs compressor calculations and provides expert-level customer service.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English for work orders, manuals, and communication.
- Models health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Uses computer skills, including vendor-specific programs (Cat, Waukesha, Ariel, Murphy), Internet Explorer, and Outlook.
- Leads by example in completing and submitting company documentation accurately and on time.
- Available for after-hours on-call requests.
Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of gas engines, compressors, electrical systems, panel boards, controls, and skid wiring through advanced training or performance verification.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical/electro-mechanical failure analysis and investigation.
- Advanced compression and engine performance understanding.
- Understanding of pulsation and vibration in equipment.
- Fully understands customer facilities/production equipment and can troubleshoot system issues.
- Comprehensive knowledge of regional processes and systems, regardless of type, make, or model.
- Knowledge of company maintenance standards checklist and ability to follow it accurately.
- Ability to run software to produce Performance Curves (when approved by Service Manager) for compressor adjustments.
Education and Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Gas or diesel engine and compressor school/training preferred.
Experience
- Typically at least 10 years of experience with natural gas engines and compressors.
- Demonstrated history of successful and safe service experience.
Leadership
- Serves as a resource for mentoring, knowledge transfer, training, and checking work.
- May occasionally lead a crew or temporarily fill in for Lead FST.
- Trains and mentors less experienced Field Service Technicians.
Physical Demands
- Must be fit for duty for job tasks (refer to WorkSaver Systems for details).
- Must meet medical requirements for PPE, including respiratory protection if required.
- Constant manual dexterity and ability to reach with hands and arms.
- Constant communication (talking and hearing).
- Frequent sitting (driving or using a PC), standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting.
- Regular lifting, moving, and carrying up to 50 pounds; pushing and pulling up to 110 pounds.
- Occasional carrying of at least 40 pounds with one hand for 10+ feet.
- Occasional crawling, climbing in/around equipment, stairs, and vertical ladders.
- Vision abilities: close, distance, color, and ability to adjust focus.
- Extensive travel and driving/working in inclement weather for extended periods.
