About the Role
As a Field Service Technician II with BearCom, you will be responsible for the installation and support of wireless communications systems. Technicians are the heart of every service location, delivering exceptional customer service and technical expertise to meet and exceed challenging customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Create mid-level programming codeplugs (12+ channels, trunking, multiple zones).
- Install and service wireless communications equipment, including:
- UHF/VHF and 800/900 MHz systems
- Dispatch consoles
- BDA/DAS systems
- Microwave systems
- Wireless broadband devices
- CCTV equipment
- Recommend appropriate equipment and hardware that meets customer requirements.
- Regional and/or overnight travel and on-call hours may be required.
Requirements
- 5+ years of service technician experience in diagnosing, repairing, programming, and installing Motorola, Kenwood, ICOM, or Vertex equipment in the 2-way radio wireless and/or communications field (unless military experienced).
- Extensive knowledge of 2-way radio theory and RF propagation characteristics at various frequency bands.
- Ability to interpret schematics, blueprints, and diagrams.
- Knowledge of battery backup systems, base stations, repeaters, multicouplers, duplexers, TCP/IP principles, and NIC programming.
- Proficiency in operating test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, system analyzers, watt meters, TDRs, FDRs, and multimeters.
- Proficiency in designing, troubleshooting, and installing Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and Bidirectional Amplifier (BDA) systems.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Drug screenings, motor vehicle record, and background checks are part of the hiring process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient electronics background.
- Experience diagnosing, repairing, programming, and installing RF equipment.
- Understanding of two-way radio theory and RF propagation characteristics at various frequency bands.
- Competency with test equipment (communications service monitors, wattmeters, TDRs, FDRs, multimeters).
- IP networking experience.
- CET certification (must be attained within 6 months of employment).
- Associate degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent.
- R56 Certified Installer.
- Motorola Astro 4x-7x training for various system operations.
- Certification in Astro 25 products (Quantar, GTR8000, MCC5500/7500, etc.).
- Certification in MotoTRBO products and systems (Connect+, Capacity+, Linked Capacity+, IP Site Connect, Capacity Max, etc.).
- Knowledge of audio, RF, digital, and microprocessor electronic circuits at the component level.
- Security clearance (preferred).
