About the role
The Field Service Technician (FST) is responsible for completing preventive maintenance tasks on Varian Medical Systems (VMS) linear accelerator and imaging systems, ensuring customers’ equipment operates efficiently. Each FST operates in a designated field service region and represents VMS.
- Proactively perform specific periodic and preventive maintenance activities on Linear Accelerators and associated medical equipment outside of normal business hours per documented procedures.
- Manage time and maintain a daily/weekly schedule to effectively perform preventive maintenance on systems throughout the service region.
- Understand and recognize the need to escalate incidents when necessary and/or request additional assistance from more tenured representatives or leadership.
- Maintain administrative duties, including timely completion and submission of field service work orders, expense reports, and management of consignment (parts) and other required documentation according to VMS procedures.
- Communicate required follow-up actions to the primary assigned representative.
Requirements
- Excellent time management and professional communication skills, both internally and externally.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships through written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
- Frequent use and application of technical documentation (electronic and paper), standards, principles, concepts, and techniques in the field.
- Basic knowledge of electronic, electro-mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and plumbing systems.
- Familiarity with basic operation of handheld test equipment (e.g., Digital Multimeter, Digital Oscilloscope).
- Basic technical experience with micro-computers/PC-based systems and simple hand tools.
- Maintain Vendor Credentialing status and compliance with company and customer requirements for site access, including but not limited to:
- Proof of valid identification (photo, driver’s license, SSN).
- Criminal background checks, drug screens, immunizations (Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Influenza, Tetanus, COVID-19), annual TB testing, and other assigned training.
- Must live within close proximity or be willing to relocate to the Greater Boston area.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of residence with no prior DUI/DWI convictions or pending charges (unless prohibited by state/local law).
- Legally authorized for employment in the United States without requiring employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future.
Qualifications
- Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Vocational training or military experience with electronics.
- Completion of all required VMS training classes for Hardware Preventive Maintenance.
- Familiarity with business tools such as email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HCM/ERP software (e.g., Workday).
Skills
- Strong ability to manage customer expectations while building and maintaining positive relationships.
- Understanding and utilization of the escalation process to Field Service Representatives, Management, Service Delivery, Support, and Product Support Engineering.
Pay
The base pay range for this position is $55,230 - $75,944. Factors affecting starting pay include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.
