About the Role
Field Service Technicians perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and service of Caterpillar diesel-powered construction equipment. This skilled position works largely independently out of a company-provided field service truck at various customer locations and service shops. You will report to a Branch Manager and serve customers throughout the region.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals, company policies, and procedures.
- Work with electric/electronic and hydraulic system schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment service manuals; proficient in the use of test equipment.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and high-quality repair service on construction equipment, engines, and power trains to meet customer needs safely and timely, ensuring maximum value.
- Serve as a technical expert and primary support contact, communicating with customers to deliver an exceptional experience.
- Travel within an assigned region, work overtime, weekends, and holidays—sometimes with short notice. Overnight travel may occasionally be required (averaging up to 25%).
- Possess and maintain a current, valid state driver’s license with a DOT medical card for operating service trucks and towing.
- Maintain a basic set of industrial tools, including hand tools, air tools, torque wrenches, and multimeters.
- Work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and on-call hours, often independently in remote locations.
- Operate in environments where hazards may be present; frequent hand use for typing, operating phones, handling materials, and other job-related tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Five or more years of experience with equipment diagnostics and advanced troubleshooting on construction equipment; candidates with strong engine experience but limited equipment experience will be considered.
- Field Service Technician training and/or equipment service and maintenance training through accredited technical schools, dealerships, or manufacturer training preferred.
- Professionalism, integrity, adaptability, and a strong customer service focus.
- Sense of urgency, self-initiative, and personal drive to succeed.
- Excellent communication skills.
