About the role

This role supports field Service operations within Sungrow USA related to commissioning, warranty, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of expanding installed sites in the region. Reporting to the regional field service supervisor, this position is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning support of PV inverters and ancillary equipment/systems, usually at the customer’s site or at a staging yard/warehouse. This position will comply with the Safety Mandate, “ZERO HARM,” to ensure safe and efficient work and operation of the facility for all personnel and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of technical assignments involving the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of string and central solar inverter and/or BESS Systems, PCS, batteries, and ancillary equipment.
  • Perform general troubleshooting and diagnosis under Sungrow’s maintenance and repair guidelines.
  • Support and perform pre-commissioning (with and without grid emulator) and commissioning of solar inverters and BESS systems within schedule and work plans.
  • For O&M capacity, perform Preventive Maintenance and other Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA) activities per the contract.
  • Investigate solar plant issues such as DC array grid faults, inverter design issues, and utility grid transients. For BESS positions, these investigations may also involve SOC checks and module/component-level troubleshooting, replacement of electrical/electronic parts, SW version updates, etc.
  • Provide feedback to the engineering and project team on possible mechanical and electrical design improvements.
  • Lead upgrade/rework projects (software and hardware) in the field and interact with customers to explain the project's technical scope and manage work schedule and commitments.
  • Work with customer SCADA engineers to set up systems communication and parameters involving Sungrow’s controllers and F&G systems as needed.
  • Accurately describe troubleshooting sequences and procedures observed.
  • Identify and document basic mechanical and electrical issues and problems.
  • Perform basic corrective maintenance.
  • Create/modify Field Service procedures for safety troubleshooting and maintenance if required.
  • When using contractors on sites, act as the Lead to ensure contractors submit daily activity reports and JSA reports and work follows Sungrow standards and expectations.
  • Prepare and submit own Daily Activity Reports and Daily JSA Reports.
  • Work independently in the field and with Design Engineers to resolve high-level technical issues, support the investigation of the root cause for technology applications for complex projects.
  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistic, financial, and program management disciplines to maintain solar plant operations.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
  • Complete documentation in a timely and organized fashion.
  • Follow level-appropriate standard operating procedures.
  • Own creation and submission of all field paperwork and documentation for full compliance with site documentation and project requirements.
  • Serve as a safety second if needed.
  • Implement and enforce safety management policy and procedures regarding the facility: safety information, hazard analysis, safe operations/maintenance training, subcontractor compliance, plant integrity, work permits, emergency planning, and response.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in an Engineering or Computer Science Discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Renewable industry experience is desired.
  • Power Electronics experience is desired.
  • OSHA 10 certificate within 12 months of date of hire.
  • NFPA 70e certificate within 12 months of date of hire.
  • 3+ years of overall experience in a technical field.
  • 2 years of experience in solar inverters or BESS.
  • Ability to work with test equipment and hand tools as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • OSHA, NFPA70A, Electrical Safety Experience and/or certification with MV transformers a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Travel 80%+.

Skills

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Motivated self-starter with complex problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of partners, senior managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions using proper techniques that may include lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tools, equipment, and materials (up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation).
  • Engage in frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching during field assignments.
  • Work in a variety of field environments, including confined spaces, uneven surfaces, and varying weather conditions.
  • Follow all company safety policies and training requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Comprehend Job Hazard Analysis and conduct level-appropriate Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Designated as Authorized Person for LOTO.

Pay

For candidates in the states of California, Colorado, New York, and Washington, the anticipated base pay for this role is between $36 to $40 per hour plus overtime.
