Field Service Technician

Teledyne FLIR Defense is a leading provider of advanced detection and surveillance systems supporting federal, state, local, and international customers. We are seeking a professional Field Service / Support Technician (FSST) to support continued growth and ensure operational readiness of deployed systems.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform installation, maintenance, repair, and upgrade of EO/IR, radar, and electro-mechanical systems, including electrical, mechanical, software, and optical components.
- Install company products and perform system integration activities at customer sites.
- Provide onsite and remote (telephonic) technical support to customers.
- Communicate directly with customers to assess service needs, explain findings, and provide solutions.
- Deliver informal on-the-job training to customer personnel on system operation and maintenance.
- Establish and maintain strong customer relationships, representing the organization with professionalism.
- Independently manage field diagnostics, repair, maintenance, and upgrade activities.
- Determine efficient and cost-effective repair solutions to minimize downtime.
- Perform fault isolation and troubleshooting to the component level using diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
- Trace and resolve wiring, cabling, and connectivity faults.
- Interpret and apply technical documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Perform system and sub-system functional testing to validate performance and identify issues.
- Prepare detailed service reports documenting diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and failure trends using Microsoft Word.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to resolve complex issues and support continuous improvement.
- Prepare tools, materials, and test equipment for field assignments.

- Coordinate and execute domestic and occasional international travel.
- Complete required export documentation prior to travel.
- Operate company, customer, and rental vehicles as required.
Job Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or trade education in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electro Mechanical Systems, or related discipline preferred.
- 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in field service, electronics repair, or electro-mechanical troubleshooting.
- Previous experience as a Field Service Technician, Automotive, Aviation, Diesel, or similar technical role.
- Background in electronics, electro-mechanical systems, or equivalent military technical training.
- Strong troubleshooting and repair experience on complex electrical, mechanical, and basic software systems.
- Working knowledge of wiring, cabling, connectors, and diagnostic tools.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical documentation.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a passport.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in field environments.
- Physical ability to lift up to 55 pounds, stand for extended periods, and access elevated or confined installations.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 25%–60%, including short-notice assignments, domestic and occasionally international.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior military technical experience related to EO/IR, sensors, avionics, or surveillance systems.
- Hands-on experience with EO/IR sensors, thermal imaging systems, or optronics technologies.
- Familiarity with military maintenance and supply systems.
- Experience providing technical training to government or military end users.
- Knowledge of SAP or similar enterprise maintenance systems (training available).
