Key Responsibilities
- Perform on-site troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, LV/MV switchgear, and PLC controls.
- Conduct system diagnostics and address technical issues to ensure minimal downtime and efficient system operation.
- Support system startups and commissioning, ensuring systems are operational and meet customer specifications.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers during service visits, resolving technical issues and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Provide basic training to customers on system operation and basic maintenance.
- Document service activities, including providing test reports and feedback on system performance.
- Maintain accurate records of time tracking, service work, and inventory on-site.
- Collaborate with other technicians to ensure timely and effective service delivery.
- Utilize remote troubleshooting tools when applicable to resolve issues quickly and reduce downtime.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Certifications: NFPA 70E, OSHA 30, or other relevant technical certifications are a plus.
- Experience: 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a field service technician, with a focus on power systems, electrical equipment, or industrial controls.
- Experience: Experience with basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, transformers, and circuit breakers.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with field service management software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly to customers.
- Ability to work independently and manage service priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Extra Competencies
- Experience with electrical systems at low and medium voltage levels.
- Basic experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and protective relay systems is a plus.
Other Requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, with overnight stays to visit customer sites and JDC locations across the country.
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
- Familiarity with industry-standard test equipment (e.g., multimeters, breaker test sets).
Location
DMV area - office in Sterling, VA
Travel Requirements
Travel is required on a daily/weekly basis to both customer sites and internal field service locations across the Region.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- General Physical Demands: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–12 hours per day) on job sites.
- Ability to bend, kneel, squat, crouch, and crawl in confined or restricted spaces.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas.
- Ability to work in various industrial environments, including but not limited to indoors and outdoors, in dust and dirt, and in varying weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
- Lifting and Material Handling: Frequently lift and carry materials and tools weighing up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift and move materials up to 75 lbs with assistance or mechanical aids.
- Ability to push, pull, and maneuver equipment such as switchgear components, cable reels, and test equipment safely and effectively.
- Manual Dexterity and Tool Use: Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely and effectively.
- Adequate visual acuity to read schematics, labels, and digital displays; ability to distinguish colors for wiring identification.
- Ability to receive and respond to alarms, equipment sounds, verbal instructions, and safety communications through effective means.
Work Environment Conditions
- Exposure to electrical hazards (energized and de-energized systems)
- High noise levels requiring hearing protection
- Dust, dirt, and industrial conditions typical of construction and energized facilities
- Ability to comply with and work in full PPE including arc-flash suits, hard hats, safety glasses, safety boots, and fall protection gear
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and extreme temperatures
- Exposure to industrial conditions typical of construction and energized facilities
Travel and Schedule Demands
- Ability to travel frequently (regional or national)
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and on-call schedules
- Ability to adapt to extended shifts during commissioning and startup activities
