Field Service Engineer (FIELD REMOTE - Canton/Akron OH)

About the role

Provides highly visible customer support through on-site installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems. Instructs customers in system operation and maintenance, and serves as company liaison on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects. This role may include support for system hardware and software, PCs, and networking/wireless networking.

Location: Remote field roles servicing customers in the Canton and Akron, Ohio area.

Responsibilities

• Perform installations, maintenance, validations, and repairs while ensuring compliance with PerkinElmer’s service standards and key performance indicators.
• Engage with customers to understand their analytical workflows and tailor service offerings, including training, support, and upgrades.
• Enhance account profitability through efficient service execution and by identifying revenue opportunities such as billable work, consumables, and service leads.
• Maintain assigned assets, including tools, test equipment (MTE), telecommunication equipment, and service parts inventory.
• Enhance PerkinElmer’s product quality by proactively reporting improvement opportunities via the quality notification process.
• Attend higher-level certification through participation in company-sponsored training and development offerings.
• Complete all administrative tasks, including time reporting and assigned training.
• Maintain training and compliance in health and safety, security, environmental, and operational aspects of daily activities.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification:

• BA/BS Degree in Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline including military experience plus 3 years direct experience with repair of laboratory equipment OR
• Associate Degree in Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline including military experience plus 5 years direct experience with repair of laboratory equipment OR
• High School Diploma plus 7+ years direct experience with repair of laboratory equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Detailed knowledge of analytical equipment, laboratory environment, and/or instrument control software.
• Vendor-issued certification on relevant laboratory equipment.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety practices as defined by the Company and/or the customer’s site safety code.
• Ability to travel by air, vehicle, and/or other means of transportation as business requires (typically up to 50% of the time). Car, laptop, and phone are company-provided.
• Valid driver’s license and safe motor vehicle operation.

Working Environment

• Must be able to work in a laboratory or controlled environment requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses).
• Job pace may be fast with high demands for job completion.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time.
• Occasional movement between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite.
• Frequent operation of instruments, objects, tools, or controls requiring regular bending, squatting, stretching, and reaching.
• Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).
• Specific vision abilities required: close-range detail observation, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Occasional operation of a computer and other office machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, printer).
• May be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations.
• Potential exposure to lab-based hazards including extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.
• May require completion of Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator.

Pay

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $58,760.00 to $75,000.00. The final base pay offered will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, and individual qualifications such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
