Field Safety Facilitator I

About the Role

The Safety Facilitator works closely with Line Management to communicate safety guidelines and procedures while allowing for necessary variances. This role involves presenting clear facts to the Safety Support Team for evaluating unusual situations and building strong relationships with the Operations Team. Additionally, the Safety Facilitator collaborates with the WMS department to write permits for projects.

Responsibilities

• Observe job site working conditions to ensure safety; take corrective action for unsafe conditions, including immediate correction, isolating areas, stopping work, and reporting to supervisors with recommended actions.
• Monitor workforce behavior for unsafe acts and take immediate corrective action; report observations verbally and in writing to management.
• Assist the site workforce in planning work with a focus on safety aspects.
• Support site supervision with safety briefs, pre-task planning, and developing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), including performing, reviewing, and guiding supervisors.
• Respond to incidents and accidents by providing emergency aid and ensuring unsafe conditions are corrected to prevent further incidents.
• Assist in issuing and inspecting personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Participate in investigations of safety incidents or accidents.

Requirements

• High School Diploma.
• 5+ years of construction safety experience.
• Ability to meet all physical requirements, including working at heights in excess of 300 ft.
• Possession of all required tools and reliable transportation.
• Valid OSHA 500 certificate and experience as an instructor for OSHA 10 and 30-hour courses.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and their application to construction work.
• Ability to read and interpret complex documents, including company safety policies, client safety documents, and government requirements (OSHA/MSHA).
• Strong leadership skills and ability to work under difficult situations, including influencing others and managing conflict.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to identify and resolve safety risks.
• Basic computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.
• Willingness to follow all company directives and safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current or former Zachry employee (ROF’ed).
• Experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
• Experience as a craft worker or craft supervisor on an industrial construction project.
• Certifications in OSHA 10, OSHA 30, confined space (competent person), excavation (competent person), NCCER Field Safety, NCCER Safety Technology, and/or BCSP’s certification.

Physical Requirements

• Extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
• Frequent communication through talking and hearing.
• Use of arms and hands for signaling, grabbing, holding, turning, pushing, and pulling objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
• Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms and man lifts, occasionally on open structures using fall protection.
• Good visual acuity and depth perception.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
• Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.
