Field/Project Engineer

About the Role

This position involves training and overseeing third-party installation contractors, ensuring proper interpretation of system documentation, and driving the execution of the installation QA/QC plan. You will participate in building components and subassemblies, contribute to design reviews, and suggest improvements for procedural and design changes. Additionally, you will identify needs for new equipment to enhance efficiency and profitability, and travel throughout North America to support site installations and upgrades (40-60% travel required).

Responsibilities

• Train contractors on proper installation methodologies.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight to third-party installation contractors.
• Guide installation contractors in the proper interpretation of system documentation.
• Drive execution of the installation QA/QC plan.
• Participate in building components and subassemblies.
• Contribute to new product/component constructability design reviews and suggest procedural and design improvements.
• Identify needs for installation of new equipment to improve efficiency and profitability of yards.
• Travel throughout North America to support site installations and upgrades (40-60%).

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and work instructions.
• Extensive knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to solve technical problems in a timely manner with minimal support.
• Ability to react to changing conditions and work under aggressive deadlines.
• Ability to maintain focus on project goals despite schedule pressure and challenging conditions.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve project goals.
• Willingness to travel at least 50% of the time.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, or Industrial Engineering.
• Valid driver’s license.

Experience in the scrap industry is preferred but not essential.

Work Environment

• Office Equipment & Tools: Personal computer, multi-line phone, laser printer.
• Physical Demand Level: Light to moderate.
• Work Capacity: Lifting and carrying 35lb loads, bending, kneeling, and sitting for long periods.
• Sensory Demands: Hearing, vision, touch, and taste.
• Hand Movements: Repetitive motions, gripping, keyboard alignment.

Final candidates will be required to pass a thorough background check (including criminal history and previous employment verification) and a post-offer physical and drug test.
