About the role

The Field Mechanic (Heavy Equipment) plays a crucial role in maintaining and repairing heavy civil construction equipment. Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses problems and performs mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy civil construction equipment (bulldozers, scrapers, backhoes, front end loaders, yard trucks, forklifts, and company vehicles).
  • Inspects and documents condition of equipment for items needing repair or service.
  • Replaces or repairs defective parts using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
  • Rebuilds or fabricates parts.
  • Lubricates moving parts and operates repaired equipment to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Performs tasks per preventative maintenance checklist.
  • Drives pick-up or service truck.
  • Safety conscious and responds to inquiries promptly; follows through to ensure the situation is taken care of correctly.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in repair/maintenance/welding in heavy civil construction equipment.
  • A High School diploma or its equivalent.
  • Ability to cut, weld, and fabricate.
  • Experience and knowledge of CAT ET diagnostic tool.
  • Able to climb ladders and operate equipment safely.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Previous experience reading technical manuals and understanding of schematic diagrams preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Valid state-specific driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record meeting Haydon’s insurability requirements.

Additional Requirements

  • Exposed to high temperatures, cool/cold temperatures, loud noises, and fumes.
  • Work in the construction area poses significantly greater risk due to moving construction equipment and active construction zones with trip and fall hazards.
  • Requires a valid state-specific driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record that meets Haydon’s insurability requirements.

Pay

Negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as needed.
