About the role
The Field Logistics Specialist is an on-site member of the Logistics Team in a District Sales Office. This person will provide logistical support to the Sales Reps as well as excellent customer service to hospital staff to differentiate Smith & Nephew from competitors. The role focuses on product delivery, restocking, maintaining inventory levels, and resetting instruments pre- and post-surgery.
Responsibilities
- Plans, schedules, and prioritizes upcoming surgery procedures needed from the district office.
- Assigns local pickups and deliveries based on time-sensitivity and travel distances to mobile field logistics personnel.
- Ensures necessary paperwork is processed for all shipments handled.
- Develops and maintains working knowledge of existing and new products (instruments and implants) to ensure proper delivery and pickups.
- Proactively identifies errors and omissions in deliveries/pickups to eliminate redundancy.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with office staff, sales representatives, and third-party end-users (e.g., hospital receiving, central processing, operating room staff).
- Fields customer complaints and escalates them to OSC staff as needed.
- Dresses professionally, potentially wearing Smith & Nephew logoed apparel at the discretion of the supervising manager.
- Assists with office, sales, and OSC duties when not directly engaged in courier responsibilities.
- Works with District OSC staff and Inventory Specialist to analyze and decide the best local delivery options based on time, cost, and vehicle availability for time-sensitive shipments.
- Routes shipments via the most appropriate method and confirms updated delivery status.
- Carries a cellular phone at all times for effective communication regarding pickups and deliveries.
- Works overtime or on-call as required to accommodate emergency situations and changing surgical schedules.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least 4 years of relevant experience in operations, distribution, logistics, inventory management, customer service, or a related field.
- Experience supporting logistics, distribution, inventory management, supply chain, customer service, or warehouse operations.
- Experience coordinating multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with inventory control processes and inventory accuracy initiatives preferred.
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs; standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling for long periods.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean record.
