About the role

As a Field Evaluation Engineer/Electrical Inspector, you will perform testing and inspection of electrical equipment and machinery at vendor locations across North America. You will ensure compliance with accreditation requirements, company and client-specific policies, and applicable codes and standards. The role involves completing regulatory compliance testing and reporting using ANSI/NFPA/UL standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field evaluations of industrial machinery and electrical equipment installed in hazardous (classified) locations (Class I, II, III; Divisions and Zones).
  • Assess compliance with applicable codes and standards, including:
    • NFPA 70 (NEC Articles 500–516)
    • NFPA 79 (Industrial Machinery)
    • UL 508A (Industrial Control Panels)
    • UL 698A (Industrial Control Panels Relating to Hazardous (Classified) Locations)
    • UL 1203 (Explosion-Proof Equipment)
    • UL 60079 Series / IEC 60079 Series (HazLoc equipment)
    • CSA C22.2 standards (as applicable)
  • Evaluate machinery for electrical safety, grounding/bonding, protection methods, and proper component selection for HazLoc environments.
  • Perform inspections, testing, and documentation required for field labeling and certification.
  • Interface with clients, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), and internal teams to support compliance and project execution.
  • Prepare detailed field evaluation reports and technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of direct experience in hazardous location field evaluations and/or product certification.
  • Hands-on experience evaluating industrial machinery in hazardous locations.
  • Strong knowledge of hazardous location protection methods:
    • Explosion-proof (Ex d)
    • Intrinsic Safety (Ex i)
    • Purged/Pressurized (Ex p)
    • Increased Safety (Ex e)
  • Working knowledge of machinery and industrial control standards, including:
    • NFPA 79
    • UL 508A
    • IEC/UL 60204-1
  • Familiarity with NRTL field evaluation processes and requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, and technical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with an NRTL or field evaluation body.
  • Exposure to IECEx and/or ATEX certification schemes.
  • Strong understanding of SCCR, grounding/bonding, and installation requirements for machinery in HazLoc environments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in the field.

Pay

The anticipated annual base pay range for this full-time position is $95,000–$110,000. Actual base pay will be determined based on experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target, subject to eligibility.
