About the role
Terracon’s Facilities Service Line is seeking a motivated Field Engineer or Architect to join our Building Enclosure team in Detroit. This entry-level opportunity is ideal for new graduates or early-career professionals looking to gain hands-on field experience, build technical skills, and support a variety of client projects. While experience in building enclosures or building science is helpful, it is not required—we provide training for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field investigations, observations, and inspections of building enclosure systems.
- Assist with engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations.
- Support the preparation and review of technical reports.
- Review construction documents for compliance with plans and specifications.
- Help develop project proposals, cost estimates, and track project budgets.
- Research and resolve design and construction challenges.
- Review and evaluate field or lab data.
- Communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Projects span sectors including public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, educational, healthcare, and industrial facilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field (new graduates encouraged).
- Interest in building science or building enclosure systems.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Curiosity, problem-solving mindset, and willingness to learn.
- Comfort with both field and office work.
- Ability to travel regionally within the Eastern Midwest (OH, KY, IN, WV, MI, Western PA).
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
