What You’ll Do
- Cook up daily briefings with Project Managers and Superintendents to keep field operations moving.
- Check your reading glasses and review construction drawings, specs, and submittals to make sure everything’s kosher in the field.
- Help out with laying out stuff, checking lines and grades, and clarifying tricky technical points.
- Jump in with both feet for earthmoving, underground utilities, drainage, and other infrastructure tasks.
- Count materials, track what’s been installed, and help with pay applications and cost tracking.
- Hook up with material testing activities and inspect materials and workmanship to make sure they’re up to snuff.
- Work with field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, utility agencies, and project stakeholders to stay safe and compliant.
- Keep detailed daily reports, logs, and field documentation.
- Spot problems early and help solve them, including supporting change order documentation.
- Help prepare workplans and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Know how to handle heavy civil construction methods, materials, and field operations.
- Can read and interpret engineering drawings, specs, and public works standards.
- Have experience with construction project management software like Procore.
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced field environment with strong organizational skills.
- Communicate effectively with field personnel, subcontractors, and project teams.
- Solve problems, analyze situations, and document findings with strong abilities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Adapt to changing field conditions and project needs.
- Follow a safety-first mindset with a commitment to quality and compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Management, or a related field.
- Approximately 0–2+ years of experience in heavy civil or infrastructure construction (internships or co-ops accepted).
- Experience managing RFIs, submittals, and drawings in Procore.
- Exposure to geotechnical or construction materials testing.
- Familiarity with public works standards (DOT, municipal, AASHTO, FHWA).
- Field experience supporting earthwork, utilities, or site development projects.
