Field Electrical Technician

Primary Responsibilities

- Learn to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair issues as they relate to control systems and their components and motors. - Identify and assist with repair needs. - Receive on-the-job training from Field Engineers. - Complete necessary service documentation. - Maintain tools and test equipment properly. - Communicate with customers on technical questions and specifications in accordance with Field Service Engineers directions. - Complete necessary service, time tracking, and expense documentation. - Ensure that all completed work meets Flanders' Standards and complies with Flanders' ISO Quality System. - Communicate clearly, concisely, and with accuracy to employees, customers, and vendors.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Education:
    • A high school diploma or equivalent.
    • An associates degree and/or trade school degree in electrical or mechanical studies preferred.
    • Or practical electrical experience in mining, metal, mills or heavy industrial industries.
  • Experience:
    • Three years electrical experience in a shop, field service and/or similar environment.
    • Mining and metals industry experience preferred.
  • Other:
    • Knowledge of AC and DC motors.
    • Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and/or variable frequency drive (VFD) systems for machine troubleshooting.
    • Ability to take after-hours calls.
    • Strong math skills including algebra, trigonometry, and analytical geometry skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills working directly with customers at the customer's work sites.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    • Strong problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
    • Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask while coordinating multiple high level priorities.

    • Ability to understand, perform, and retain various job-related training, operational, and safety procedures.
    • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision making related to non-routine duties.
