Field Demo Operations Specialist
Position Summary
We are seeking a driven, hands-on Field Demo Operations Specialist to support and execute our demonstration program for advanced autonomous Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs). This role is highly operational and field-focused, centered on preparing, deploying, and maintaining USV platforms for testing and live demonstrations with U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and other government stakeholders. The Specialist will work directly with the Field Demo Program Manager and engineering teams to ensure demo readiness, support field execution, and maintain operational reliability of all demo assets. This role offers direct exposure to real-world maritime operations, autonomous systems, and customer-facing demonstrations in a fast-paced environment.
About the Role
This is a full-time, in-person position based in West Palm Beach, Florida, with regular field work and travel as required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Field Operations & Demo Support
- Support execution of USV demonstrations and test events, including setup, launch, live operations, and teardown
- Aid with vessel launch and recovery, and support on-water operations as needed
- System Readiness & Maintenance
- Assist with inspection, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of vessels and onboard systems
- Support preparation and configuration of USV platforms prior to demonstrations and testing
- Maintain operational readiness of boats, trailers, vehicles, and supporting equipment
- Logistics & Asset Management
- Support demo logistics including equipment staging, transport, and site setup
- Maintain organization of tools, spare parts, and field equipment
- Aid with upkeep of vehicles, trailers, and operational gear
- Operational Awareness & Support
- Assist in monitoring vessel systems during operations, including navigation, propulsion, and communications
- Maintain awareness of ongoing operations and escalate issues to senior team members as needed
- Follow operational procedures, checklists, and safety protocols during all activities
- Testing & Feedback
- Document demo and test activities, including issues, observations, and performance notes
- Support execution of test procedures and data collection efforts
- Provide feedback to engineering teams to support system improvements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, maritime studies, robotics, business operations, or a related field
- Strong interest in autonomous systems, maritime operations, or defense technology
- Hands-on mechanical or technical aptitude with the ability to quickly learn complex systems
- Comfortable working in field environments including docks, boats, and outdoor test sites
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Able to take direction, learn quickly, and operate effectively in a team environment
- Clear communication skills and professional demeanor
- Willingness to travel and support field demonstrations as needed
- Must be based in or willing to relocate to West Palm Beach, Florida for an in-person role
Additional Desired Qualifications
- U.S. Coast Guard OUPV (6-Pack) Captain’s License or higher, or strong intent and ability to obtain within 6–12 months
- Prior experience operating boats or working in maritime environments
- Experience with mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems
- Exposure to robotics, unmanned systems, or field operations
- Familiarity with basic tools, troubleshooting, and hands-on technical work
