Field Chemist II

This role works both indoors and outdoors at various customer sites, leading safety protocols, packaging materials based on required regulations, performing onsite testing of suspected materials, and collaborating with customers to add additional services. Responsibilities include leading hazardous waste removal services.

Responsibilities

• Leads collection, characterization, and packaging of customer waste for final disposal.
• Ensures safe transportation of customer waste in accordance with all Federal Regulations and receiving facility regulations.
• Prepares customer paperwork including Packing Lists, Waste Labels, and Shipping Documents.
• Performs onsite support at customer locations such as inspections, waste collection, chemical dispensing, inventory management, housekeeping, and outbound waste shipments.
• Identifies and categorizes suspected contents via internal sampling procedures and categorization tests (e.g., ‘Field Screens’).
• Provides customers with a detailed inventory of waste on site.
• Travels to customer locations.

Requirements

• Proficient knowledge of chemistry principles and practices, including analysis, evaluation, waste processing, and treatment protocols.
• Proficient knowledge of Federal and State Environmental and Transportation regulations (DOT, OSHA, RCRA, etc.).
• Ability to perform proper waste sampling, create accurate waste characterizations and profiles, and address difficult situations constructively.
• Strong computer skills for communication, data gathering, and reporting.
• Detail-oriented with high accuracy in detecting data inconsistencies and clearly expressing complex concepts.
• Ability to build rapport with associates, managers, and customers to support requests and address routine needs.
• Currently hold a 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (with 8-hour refresher) or ability to pass the course upon hire.
• Currently hold a Tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 3-6 months of hire.
• Respirator fit test certified.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain an MVR that meets Company policy standards.
• Active CDL (A, B, or C) with HAZMAT Endorsement.
• Ability to regularly lift or move objects weighing 40 lbs or more.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $39.35 to $54.12 per hour, reflecting the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality in which you are hired.
