Field Automation Expert II

About the role

The Field Automation Expert II is responsible for service support and execution of digital and automation projects in North America. This role focuses on successfully delivering standalone digital and automation service projects, including design, factory testing, and commissioning. The position also aims to generate opportunities to grow Voith’s Service Business in North America while working with key stakeholders to provide a best-in-class service experience for customers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct customer visits to generate growth and support sales and marketing of new services and products.
• Grow and maintain customer relationships.
• Prepare and update designs for customer projects, contributing to process improvement and standardization.
• Participate in proposals (OTO) to prepare preliminary design proposals.
• Operate CAD/CAE equipment to complete work assignments.
• Search for and identify OEM drawings in archives and customer-supplied files.
• Use SAP to create Bills of Materials (BoMs) tailored for manufacturing, sourcing, logistics, and installation.
• Participate in design reviews and prepare design changes, processing change notifications.
• Support the disposition of non-conforming materials and components.
• Follow design schedules and keep supervisors informed of progress, challenges, and delays.
• Engage vendors, manufacturing, and field service personnel to define cost-effective and low-risk solutions.
• Support the quality department with continuous improvement and problem-solving activities.
• Assist Test Engineers during start-up and commissioning, evaluating test results and guaranteed values.
• Prepare and complete technical data reports/forms as needed.
• Communicate with customers regarding engineering design-related questions and concerns.
• Perform detailed engineering and system engineering for standalone and digital service projects.
• Perform field service and commissioning of service projects on-site.
• Manage on-site resources and contractor supplier scheduling.
• Ensure project profitability.
• Work with customers to obtain necessary machine information for application development.
• Provide product training and support technical service.
• Assist with trial planning, customer proposals, trial evaluation, and continuous improvement documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related experience.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in control systems design and commissioning (hydraulic control experience is a plus).
• Self-starting individual with strong communication skills for internal and external resources.
• Strong service mindset.
• Knowledge of PLC control systems for hydro turbines, generators, governors, HPU, excitation systems, and BOPe/BOPm systems.
• Ability to travel up to 60% to various customer/project sites.
