Field Applications Engineer - Interconnects (REMOTE)
Location: Remote with local travel - Seattle, WA
About the Role
The Field Applications Engineer (FAE) team interfaces with customers, internal product development, product marketing, and the extended sales team to provide world-class interconnect solutions. This customer-facing role combines technical expertise in connectors and interconnects with practical experience across mechanical, electrical, and electronic design to drive successful application deployment, especially in Tier 1 Data Center environments. The ideal candidate will partner with sales, product, and engineering teams to deliver application guidance, proof-of-concept testing, and on-site support.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for customer engagements, delivering product and application expertise for connectors, interconnects, and related components.
- Work closely with customers including Tier 1 accounts to assess requirements, define solutions, and demonstrate product fit in Data Center and enterprise applications.
- Provide on-site and remote support for product integration, installation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Develop and execute proof-of-concept tests, application demonstrations, and validation plans to prove connector/interconnect solutions meet customer needs.
- Collaborate with internal product management and engineering teams to relay customer feedback, suggest design improvements, and influence roadmap decisions.
- Create clear technical documentation, application notes, test reports, and training materials for customers and internal teams.
- Perform mechanical, electrical, and electronic analysis to diagnose issues and recommend corrective actions or alternative interconnect strategies.
- Support pre-sales activities by preparing technical proposals, system-level block diagrams, and BOM recommendations aligned to customer applications.
- Train customer engineers and field technicians on proper installation, handling, and maintenance of connectors and interconnect systems.
- Travel regularly to customer sites, trade shows, and partner facilities to support deployment, troubleshooting, and relationship-building.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 4+ years of customer-facing experience in field applications, systems engineering, or technical support, preferably with connectors and interconnects.
- Hands-on experience with connector and interconnect products, including selection, integration, and troubleshooting in Data Center environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic design principles relevant to connector and interconnect applications.
- Experience working with Tier 1 customers or large enterprise accounts and navigating complex procurement and qualification processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and execute test plans, evaluate results, and recommend corrective actions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presenting technical concepts and creating application documentation.
- Able to travel frequently and work on-site at customer locations as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with application-level concerns such as signal integrity, power delivery, thermal management, and environmental/qualification testing.
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, engineering, product) and drive customer-focused outcomes.
