Field Applications Engineer (FAE)
Avalon Holographics is developing technology that helps people understand complex systems and solve real-world problems. We’re building advanced holographic visualization systems that combine optics, hardware, and software to enable shared, real-time 3D understanding of complex data across industries such as healthcare and defense.
About the role
We are seeking a Field Applications Engineer (FAE) based in Orlando, Florida to help bridge our technology, our customers, and our internal teams. A key part of this role will be providing hands-on technical support at a local partner site, while also helping us understand how our technology performs in the field, what customers need, and where new applications and opportunities may exist. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, asking good questions, and figuring things out as they go. As our technology and market evolve, so will this role.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary technical point of contact for a partner site in the Orlando area.
- Support the setup, operation, testing, and evaluation of Avalon’s holographic display systems.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and system-level issues, collaborating with Engineering to resolve more complex challenges.
- Deliver product demonstrations, technical presentations, and training to customers and users.
- Work closely with customers to understand their workflows, challenges, and how they use Avalon’s technology in real-world environments.
- Identify and communicate insights from the field that can help Avalon better understand customer needs, potential applications, and opportunities for our technology.
- Gather and communicate technical feedback, issues, and observations to Product and Engineering.
- Support customer evaluations and help determine what works, what doesn’t, and where our technology can provide meaningful value.
- Support software and hardware updates, system configuration, and product improvements in the field.
- Contribute to broader applications engineering projects and priorities as our customers, technology, and market evolve.
- Document technical issues, resolutions, customer feedback, and key learnings from the field.
- Travel as needed for site support, training, demonstrations, tradeshows, and internal collaboration.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in Field Applications Engineering, Applications Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a similar customer-facing technical role.
- Strong hands-on technical skills working with integrated hardware and software systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the curiosity to dig into problems that may not have an obvious answer.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to make complex technical concepts understandable.
- Confidence working directly with customers, asking thoughtful questions, and building trusted relationships.
- Ability to recognize meaningful patterns and insights from customer interactions and communicate them clearly to internal teams.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with remote Product and Engineering teams.
- A proactive and adaptable approach to working in an environment where the technology, market, and priorities are still evolving.
- Ability to work in person in Orlando, Florida and travel as required.
Nice to Have
- Background supporting complex hardware and software products in customer or field environments.
- Familiarity with visualization systems, simulation, digital twins, display technology, or other advanced technical platforms.
- Exposure to customer evaluations, demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, or operational testing.
- Experience working with early-stage, deep-tech, or rapidly evolving products.
