Field Applications Engineer
About the role
The Applications Engineer (AE) supports Amphenol-CDI Engineering, Marketing and Sales teams to provide technical support for new and existing customers in the assigned Region. The AE develops and maintains relations with customer's design and manufacturing engineers by understanding problems and providing solutions via presentations, proposals, quotations, and samples. The AE analyzes opportunities and makes recommendations to drive sales growth and sustainment by supporting customer purchasing and planning organizations.
Responsibilities
- Engage customer base in engineering design phase for new product development
- Performs technical review of customer specifications
- Makes recommendations for the optimal Amphenol-CDI product solution to meet customer requirements
- Affords cost impact of customer requirements, changes to develop cost estimates
- Creates customer-facing configuration and specification drawings in support of proposals
- Travel to customer sites as needed to support existing business and win new opportunities
- Interprets customer drawings, specifications, and standards to develop product designs
- Maintains awareness of industry / market trends and requirements to provide input into new product innovations and anticipated customer demands
- Works with Marketing to identify product and pricing to compete in territory
- Communicates design concerns, drawing errors, interpretation issues, and manufacturability enhancements to Outside Sales and customer technical contacts as necessary
- Must be able to fully understand Amphenol-CDI production capabilities and data requirements and must be able to communicate professionally
- Supports Manufacturing Engineering to develop processes as needed to support customer requirements
- Supports Marketing to create customer-facing materials for use in advertisements, literature and websites
- Provides quick response and resolution to customer technical issues and problems involving industry standards, specifications, design assistance, production capabilities, and material requirements
- Performs other duties as required to meet the goals and objectives of the company
Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent
- The ideal candidate will have experience in RF interconnects and/or Filter Connector Products
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar position
- Background in aerospace, defense, or cable assembly industries favored
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Conversational in any other language is a plus
- Ability to be self-managed, fast and independent learner
- Strong customer focus and interaction – strong interpersonal relationship/customer skills
- Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with emphasis on active listening and technical documentation
- Innovative and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to solve practical problems
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other employees, managers, or customers
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Broad engineering abilities and understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Solid-works or similar CAD package
- Wire, cable, RF and Microwave experience highly beneficial

Approximately 30% to 50% of travel is expected.
Salary Information
According to several states' laws, this position's salary range falls between $90,000 and $125,000 annually. However, this salary information is merely a general guideline. When extending an offer, Amphenol CDI considers various factors such as the position's responsibilities, scope of work, candidate's work experience, education/training, essential skills, internal pay equity, and market considerations.
