About the role

As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you will support LC-MS instrumentation as a Field Application Scientist, focusing on small molecule quantitation. You will work within a multi-disciplinary matrix team including regional sales representatives, marketing and service professionals, product development scientists, and engineers. Primary responsibilities include supporting the commercial field sales team by providing expertise for LC-MS instrumentation, mainly in the small molecule mass spectrometry market (pharma or environmental applications). Support will be provided at customer sites across North America, focusing on rapidly jump-starting customers for future success.

Environmental conditions: Will work with hazardous/toxic materials.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct product training for customers virtually, remotely, or onsite on the accurate use and application of instruments and software.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to customize applications and methodologies, including troubleshooting, method development, and data interpretation.
  • Collect and analyze data from customer experiments or field trials using statistical methods, providing insights or recommendations.
  • Resolve and/or escalate customer issues and complaints.
  • Deliver technical presentations to highlight solution capabilities and benefits for various applications, communicating complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Drive collaboration with internal teams, including marketing and sales, to support strategic execution of the customer training process.
  • Stay informed about the latest scientific literature, methodologies, and regulatory requirements, acting as a trusted expert to increase customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Provide scientific support and counsel to internal teams and customers, identifying improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related scientific field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-3 years of hands-on technical experience with liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments, software, data analysis, and techniques.
  • Experience with quantitative LCMS workflows (e.g., Pharma QA/QC labs, US EPA methods) and associated sample preparation techniques.

  • Outstanding teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record of working independently with a strong work ethic.

Pay

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $83,300.00–$125,000.00. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
