About the role
Installs, troubleshoots, services, and repairs telecommunications equipment and fiber optic cable.
Responsibilities
- Tests circuits and components of malfunctioning telecommunications equipment to isolate the source of malfunctions, using various hand tools.
- Tests and repairs newly installed or updated equipment to ensure that it functions properly and conforms to specifications, using test equipment and observation.
- Drives crew trucks to and from work areas.
- Inspects equipment on a regular basis to ensure proper functioning.
- Repairs or replaces faulty equipment.
- Removes and remakes connections to change circuit layouts, following work orders or diagrams.
- Demonstrates equipment to customers, explains its use, and responds to inquiries or complaints.
- Analyzes test readings, computer printouts, and trouble reports to determine equipment repair needs and required repair methods.
- Adjusts or modifies equipment to enhance performance or respond to customer requests.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of field experience as a telecommunications technician required.
- Working knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure required.
- Familiarity with fiber optic cable preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Travel up to 20% may be required, depending on business needs.
- Ability to work long hours involving overtime and weekends as necessary.
- Ability to respond to the needs of a 24/7/365 operation, including emergency schedules during natural disasters and network outages.

- Ability to work at heights up to 50'.
- Must be able to climb poles.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day.
- Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding, Medium-Heavy position requiring:
- Prolonged standing and walking.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, reaching, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to work at elevated heights and on uneven terrain.
- Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, ladders, and vehicles.
- Working outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
- Potential work in remote locations.
