Duties And Responsibilities
- Able to efficiently take a project from initial start to final closeouts with minimal to no supervision
- Keep projects on schedule by planning your work and working your plan
- Mentor less experienced teammates on crew
- Manage and maintain company issued vehicles and equipment including fusion machines, OTDR, Power meters, light sources, trucks and trailers, etc
- Remain compliant and up-to-date with DOT regulations, licensing, technician fiber optic certifications, and all equipment calibration requirements
- Ability to read, interpret, input, and analyze information with a high degree of accuracy and completeness
- Perform unsupervised fiber optic testing (trouble shooting), reading and understanding OTDR & Power meter reports
- Operate technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, OTDR and fusion splicing and testing equipment for both single and ribbon fiber
- Knowledge of and understanding RUS units to be able to input production into company proprietary software
- Document work performed; track and communicate daily production and materials used
- Be included in an emergency on-call restoration schedule
Essential Education And Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License and DOT health card
- 5+ years experience
- Ability to work independently or in group settings
- In depth knowledge of prepping, splicing, terminating, and testing fiber optic components and cable plants
- Knowledge of TIA/EIA, NEC codes and standards, and FOT certified a plus
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, detail oriented
- Extensive knowledge of telecommunications network infrastructure, with proven skillset prepping/building various splice cases, fiber panels, proficiency with fiber testing, and processing close out packages based on customer specific requirements
- Handling/opening various types of fiber cable, routing fibers into splice trays, panels, and/or cabinets
- Knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to related construction processes
- Ability to use hand tools and equipment utilized in splicing fiber
- Ability to operate company vehicles and properly tow/back-up trailers
- Willingness to travel
- Experience operating and performing work in a bucket truck, man-lift is a plus
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, etc
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces
- Must be able to identify color
