Fiber Technician

Position Overview

Allegiance Supply is seeking experienced Level II and Level III Fiber Technicians to join an exciting pilot program supporting one of the nation's newest hyperscale data center projects. This assignment begins with a paid 2-4 week localized technical training program, followed by an approximately 8-week deployment in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Successful technicians may have opportunities to continue supporting additional hyperscale projects nationwide. This position supports critical Layer 1 infrastructure used by large cloud computing and AI data centers. Candidates must be safety-focused, quality-driven, and willing to travel 100% as future projects become available.

Compensation

• Level II Fiber Technician (3-5 Years Experience): $42.00-$48.00/hour (W-2)
• Level III Fiber Technician (5+ Years Experience): $48.00-$55.00/hour (W-2)
• Overtime: Available based on project needs

Travel Benefits

• Per Diem: $178.00/day (7 days per week) covering lodging, meals, and incidental expenses for eligible travelers
• Mileage reimbursement at $0.725 per mile from your permanent residence to the project location
• Paid travel time to the project location
• Weekly payroll

Schedule

• Monday - Friday (to start)
• 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
• 8-hour shifts
• Additional overtime available as project demands require

Primary Responsibilities

• Fiber Splicing:
  • Perform fusion splicing using Fujikura 90R fusion splicers (required)
  • Utilize 16-count V-groove 200-micron holders
  • Spect 12-count rollable ribbon fiber to dual 8-count ribbon configurations
  • Maintain proper splice tray organization and cable management
  • Ensure all splice work meets customer quality standards
• Fiber Testing & Certification:
  • Utilize EXFO testing equipment to perform: Tier-1 MPO Single-Mode certification, Bi-directional OTDR testing, Optical loss testing, Power meter testing using pinned and unpinned leads, Fiber inspection and certification, Troubleshooting and fault isolation
  • Maximum allowable loss: 2.0 dB
  • Generate complete testing reports and documentation
  • Verify compliance with customer specifications and applicable TIA/BICSI standards
• Fiber Infrastructure Installation:
  • Install, terminate, splice, and test single-mode and multimode fiber optic cabling
  • Install MPO/MTP, LC, and SC fiber connectivity systems
  • Build backbone, horizontal, and interconnect fiber infrastructure
  • Install cable tray systems, pathways, raceways, and cable management
  • Route and dress cabling according to hyperscale data center standards
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
  • Diagnose fiber optic network issues
  • Repair damaged fiber infrastructure
  • Perform cable tracing and fault isolation
  • Execute Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs)
  • Support live production environments while minimizing downtime
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections
• Documentation & Quality:
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation
  • Update labeling and cable databases
  • Complete project closeout documentation
  • Maintain customer quality standards throughout the project
• Operational Support:
  • Work closely with construction managers, network engineers, commissioning teams, and operations personnel
  • Support new server deployments requiring fiber connectivity
  • Participate in commissioning and data hall turn-up activities
  • Assist with inventory and material management

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent with relevant work experience
• Must have 3 to 5 years of experience working with ribbon fiber (minimum 288 count) and performing fiber optic cable ribbon splicing, with a minimum of 12 count rollable ribbon
• Proficient in mid-level OTDR and power meter testing, preferably using EXFO equipment
• Skilled in operating Fujikura 90R or Sumitomo fusion splicers
• Must adhere to and practice all safety requirements and standards while working in a safety sensitive environment
• Knowledge of MPO/MTP systems and high-count fiber deployments
• Advanced ability to read and interpret construction prints, drawings, and splice matrixes to ensure customer requirements are fulfilled
• Ability to determine equipment needs, cable route, cable direction, safety best practices, and perform splicing functions within a live customer facility
• Ability to read/process test results and problem solve basic issues identified during troubleshooting
• Ability to install and/or research installation procedures for all splice enclosures
• Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship
• Successful candidates must be able to speak, read, and understand English fluently and clearly to ensure safe communication on the job site

• OSHA 10 and First-Aid and/or CPR certifications preferred
• Successful candidates will be required to maintain a current valid driver's license with a clean MVR is required
• Successful candidates will be subject to complete and maintain a successful pre-employment drug and alcohol test, random testing, and MVR check

Physical & Functional Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, twist, crawl and perform physical tasks for extended periods of time
• Must possess manual dexterity in hands, fingers, and arms to effectively operate power tools, controls, and specialized equipment
• May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels while onsite
• When working on site, will be required to wear common protective or safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and steel toed boots
• Must meet specific vision requirements, including: Close vision, Color vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception, Ability to adjust focus
• Ability to safely climb ladders, scaffolding, or work from aerial lifts
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform work on uneven surfaces
• Must be able to operate a vehicle safely and responsibly as part of daily job duties
• Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks
• Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds
