Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the customer experience meets or exceeds Company standards throughout the customer lifecycle.
- Install/repair fiber fed internet and voice services from central office/head-end to customer premises for consumer and business.
- Install and maintain wiring in the Head-End, Central Office, cross connections in the loop environment, and at the customer premises.
- Test functionality and isolate problems using various test equipment and troubleshooting skills in accordance with company provided training at the customer and in the OSP network.
- Splice and test various sizes of fiber optic cables in aerial, underground, and building environments, ensuring network connectivity.
- Repair and/or replace various OSP elements in aerial, underground or building applications.
- Explain products and services to customers, works to resolve customer understanding of products and services, and maintains a working knowledge of the latest technologies and Company offerings.
- Use customer contact opportunities to up-sell products and services tailored to the customers’ needs.
- Use various hand tools and power equipment to install and make repairs to fiber outside plant systems, premise wiring, and premise equipment.
- Interface with customers and call center technicians to resolve customer installation and repair issues.
- Assist Fiber Technician –1 with complex installation and repair issues.
- Responsible for the installation and repair of inside wiring and jacks, including CAT5 and pre-connectorized fiber jumpers.
- Responsible for installation and repair of wired and wireless networking using pre-connectorized ethernet jumpers.
- Interpret complex drawings, blueprints, construction prints as required.
- May be required to cross-train others.
Required Skills And Experience
- Valid driver's license/satisfactory driving record.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Must be able to pass a DOT physical.
- Due to weight limits on equipment, a weight restriction of 285 pounds applies.
- Expert knowledge of telecom network topology and customer connectivity.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with basic hand tools.
- Expert knowledge of fiber optic splicing practices, including but not limited to; fusion splicing, testing (OTDR, Power Meter, Light Source, VFL), troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience on telecom networks including OSP and ISP elements.
- Ability to perceive differences in fiber or wire colors for identification and assignment.
- Expert knowledge of OSP construction, repair and installation methods.
- Physical ability to work aloft while climbing poles, extension ladders, and step ladders, hydraulic lift vehicles (bucket-truck), after company provided training, with proper equipment (safety belt, safety strap, hard hat, and other equipment as needed).
- Ability to lift and carry loads up to 75lbs including ladder.
- Physical ability to work in all-weather environments along with working in attics, crawlspaces, and other cramped areas while working from a kneeling or standing position for extended periods.
- Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Able to work in indoor/outdoor environments in any weather conditions.
- May be required to work on a rotating on-call schedule for emergencies.
- Overtime may be required based on business needs.
- Position requires local travel to designated job sites.
- Familiarity with OSHA and other safety regulations beneficial but not required.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs, and other technologies as it relates to the position.
