Compensation
The base pay rate range for this position is $28.00 to $33.00 per hour. Shift differential pay is available for night work.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for fiber splicing; preparation, installation and repair of single fiber optic cable using fusion splicing equipment. Performs testing of fiber on large scale networks and requires travel. In this position you may be assigned to work in a local market, or travel to various states. Essential Functions
- Accurately read and interpret basic splicing documents, splicing engineer packets and network plan designs in preparation for each job
- Perform specialized splicing techniques applicable with OPGW work and complete testing as required
- Travel to assigned job location and perform required testing and closeout packages for entire length of assigned route
- At the job site, access panels through manholes and/or hand holes
- Identify type of fiber cable within fiber cases and determine fibers to be used
- Using a fusion splicer, splice fiber optic cable in a variety of elements, indoor and outdoor
- Repair fiber optic cable as required
- Document and maintain accurate splicing records and job site notes
- Responsible for complying with all safety standards
- Responsible for upkeep and maintaining company vehicle, inventory, and small tools
- Follow all administrative processes and procedures
- Perform testing processes using Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR)
- Learn and keep current with fiber optic design and splicing processes, tools, and techniques
- Protects and keeps company proprietary information confidential
Essential Requirements
- Technical degree in line work or fiber engineering or the equivalent in training and/or work experience
- Minimum of 2 years demonstrated splicing work experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of OPGW processes and procedures
- Experience knowledge using Fujikura fusion splicing equipment, and OTDR testing equipment
- Must possess strong problem solving, decision making, analytical skills and organizational skills
- Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written procedures
- Ability to work from an Aerial lift truck and/or ladder
- Ability to use light source and power meters
- Experience using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge of Fast Reporter software
- Experience with Google earth files
