Feeder/Packer role that interchanges functions based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Feeder duties:
- Feed a minimum of 4 machines, including lifting product, pre-breaking, and placing into feed hopper.
- Feed and maintain 6 formers.
- Remove plastic and tickets from loads; provide tickets to the operator.
- Monitor quality, ensure cartons are straight, and remove loose scrap; sort as directed by the operator.
- Maintain R.S.C. inventory and supply case packers with needed materials.
- Maintain good housekeeping and follow all safety requirements (GMP’s, PPE’s, HACCP & JSA regulations).
- Perform other duties as required.
- Packer duties:
- Catch and maintain 6 lanes.
- Pull product from forming chutes at the count mark.
- Perform basic quality control: remove bad product, ensure proper gluing, and verify correct product count in sleeves.
- Complete quality check-off sheets.
- Place product into bags, then into cases, and onto conveyor after quality checks.
- Assist operators with cleaning glue tips, relieving other packers for breaks, labeling, repacking boxes, and maintaining area cleanliness.
- Maintain good housekeeping and follow all safety requirements (GMP’s, PPE’s, HACCP & JSA regulations).
- Make and label boxes, fill glue containers, and clean work area.
- Check with operators or supervisor for additional tasks.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience: Packaging experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.
- Other Qualifications:
- Dependable team player.
- Ability to read, understand, and comprehend safety rules, quality procedures, and machine operating procedures.
- Ability to communicate production and machine issues to supervisors and coworkers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment around machinery.
- Basic mathematics (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Working Conditions
- Required PPE: safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, steel-toed shoes, and task-specific PPE.
- Manufacturing plant is not environmentally controlled; humidity and temperature vary throughout the year.
Physical Demands
- Continuous use of hands and fingers to position, and arms to reach.
- Frequent bending and movement within the work area.
- Occasional stationary positions, ascending/descending steps, pushing, pulling, and communication.
- Occasional moving and positioning of up to 35 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
