About the Role
The Feed Mill Operator produces high-quality feed and is knowledgeable about the feed mill manufacturing process, equipment, and systems. This role is pivotal to the agricultural community, ensuring seamless production of high-quality animal feed through precision, collaboration, and adherence to safety and operational standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage ingredient process flow of the entire feed mill, including receiving, grinding, batching, and loadout.
- Receive ingredients and maintain the feed mill, warehouse, bins, and related equipment.
- Coordinate, plan, and execute finished feed production runs for layer and pullet farms.
- Perform or coordinate preventative maintenance and repair of mill and related equipment as needed.
- Understand internal feed computer systems and process paperwork, orders, or related information to support farm operations.
- Follow established procedures to maintain sufficient ingredients and finished feed inventory levels.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Provide back-up support to coworkers and other departments as required.
- Coordinate with other departments to troubleshoot day-to-day equipment concerns, such as feed consumption, scales, and accurate reporting of feed usage.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of related experience and/or training as a Feed Mill Operator/Industrial Maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Awareness and knowledge of the mechanical operations of a feed mill and proper equipment maintenance.
- Agricultural, mill, grain elevator, industrial, or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Good communication skills and a teamwork attitude.
- Computer/iPad skills and understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Mechanical, electrical, and metal working knowledge is preferred.
- Ability to operate power tools and equipment safely.
- Independent self-starter with the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and attention to detail.
- Mathematical ability is required.
- Knowledge of production agriculture or feed operations is preferred.
- Ability to walk and stand for 10 hours/day.
- Forklift, Skid Steer, or Front End Loader experience is preferred.
Physical Demands
- Stand and walk frequently throughout the day.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently.
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
Work Environment
- Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places.
- All personal protective equipment will be provided and required during certain working conditions and in certain areas.
