About the role

Join CHS as a Feed Mill Operator in our Gettysburg, SD location! In this hands-on role, you’ll help produce high-quality livestock feed by operating equipment, supporting day-to-day production, and keeping the facility running safely and efficiently. We provide on-the-job training and offer schedule flexibility, including opportunity for overtime and 4-10 hour shifts during peak season or standard 8-4:30 shifts. Responsibilities

• Operate feed mill equipment (grinders, mixers, batching/pelleting systems) of a processing facility.
• Ensure product quality, meet safety requirements, and maintain throughput in the assigned area.
• Conduct continuous inspections, monitor equipment, record operating parameters, and make necessary adjustments to meet specifications and production targets.
• Comply with and implement all regulations and requirements, including completion of necessary record keeping.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance (greasing, inspections, minor troubleshooting) and report mechanical issues.
• Maintain housekeeping, sanitation schedule, and general appearance of the assigned work area.
• Receive, handle, and move feed ingredients; load and unload trucks.
• Prepare and manage loadout, including opening hatches, attaching hoses, sampling, and ensuring accurate product delivery.
• Successfully complete initial, ongoing, and supplemental training.
• Maintain and promote a strong safety culture; follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
• Work collaboratively with co-workers in a professional manner to support overall plant operations, anticipate and solve problems, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Perform other duties as needed or assigned to support operations.

Requirements

• Must meet minimum age requirement.
• 1+ years of experience in operations, production, manufacturing, and/or agriculture environments.
• Ability to operate machinery such as loaders, conveyors, tractors, and track mobile.
• Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons to meet business demands.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Agriculture experience preferred.
• Forklift certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work independently for extended periods, as well as in confined spaces and hazardous environments.
• Ability to spend long periods on your feet, including walking, standing, climbing steps and ladders, and working at heights up to 120 ft.
• Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to wear all required protective equipment, which may include respirators, hard hats, and eye and hearing protection.
• Ability to use both automated and manual tools and equipment.
• Ability to shovel, sweep, load, unload, lift, and carry materials up to 50 lbs frequently.
• Ability to work in noisy, dusty, and all weather conditions.

Pay

Competitive total rewards package including base wage and, depending on position, bonus, incentives, and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on experience, education, training, specialized skills, certifications, and local minimum wage/salary requirements.

Schedule

• Standard schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
• Peak season schedule: 4-10 hour shifts with opportunity for overtime.
