About the role

The accountant will support the advisory team in providing a blend of financial management related advisory support services to assist the day-to-day federal financial management operations to include technical accounting and financial reporting activities at a federal client.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting comprehensive research and analysis of technical and general ledger accounting and preparations of federal financial statements and notes.
  • Reading, interpreting, and developing financial management regulatory and/or accounting guidance and procedural documents.
  • Verifying the accuracy, completeness, and validity of a wide variety of accounting functions/transactions including fund balance with Treasury, accounts receivable, obligations, accrued expenditures, disbursements, appropriation refunds, reimbursable orders, earnings, collections, eliminations, and journal vouchers.
  • Preparing and reviewing documents from varied sources for accuracy, validity, expenditure limitation, and correct accounting data; balancing and maintaining the subsidiary ledgers; performing various reconciliations such as un-liquidated contractual obligations, fund balance with Treasury, accounts receivable, unfilled customer orders, and other United States Standard General Ledger (USSGL) accounts.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "Public Trust"; candidates must obtain approved adjudication of their Public Trust prior to onboarding. Candidates with an active Public Trust or suitability are preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; client approval may be requested for degree type outside of Accounting.
  • Two (2) years of experience in accounting, financial management, interpreting, and/or analyzing data and developing business requirements for a financial accounting team or similar in a Certified Financial Officer (CFO) level organization or similar financial/budgeting environment.
  • Knowledge of Federal accounting concepts and standards, Federal procurement concepts (including the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)), Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Act, Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA), Government Management Reform Act (GMRA), Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), Treasury Financial Manual (TFM), and relevant Office of Management and Budget (OMB) circulars and bulletins on financial accounting and internal and system controls.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize work and exercise independent judgment, wisdom, and initiative.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to learn and participate in business development activities and internal firm objectives.
  • Experience working directly with Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other federal financial management/accounting certification (e.g., Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM)/Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM)).

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $74,000.00 - $124,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
