Federal Project Director (Construction)
About the role
Established, growing Federal Construction firm in need of experienced leader. We are an established and growing general contractor with a national footprint and a significant portfolio of federal construction work. Our teams deliver complex design-build, design-bid-build, vertical, horizontal and infrastructure projects for federal and government clients throughout the United States. With continued growth and new project awards, we are seeking an experienced Federal Project Director to provide leadership across our federal construction portfolio. This is a senior-level opportunity for someone who understands not only how to successfully execute federal projects, but how to lead project teams, manage multiple concurrent programs and help grow a federal construction operation.
Responsibilities
- Provide executive oversight across multiple concurrent federal construction projects
- Lead and mentor Project Managers, Superintendents and project teams
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, cost controls, forecasting and overall financial performance
- Ensure successful execution from preconstruction and mobilization through closeout
- Manage relationships with federal clients, contracting officers, design partners, subcontractors and other stakeholders
- Provide oversight of design-build and design-bid-build project delivery
- Support pursuits, proposals, estimating, staffing plans and project strategy
- Manage work performed under IDIQ, MATOC, MACC and other federal contract vehicles
- Ensure compliance with federal contracting requirements, safety standards, quality-control programs and contractual requirements
- Assist executive leadership with resource planning, operational strategy and continued growth of the federal construction portfolio
- Travel regularly to active projects and client locations
Qualifications
- Approximately 10+ years of federal construction experience
- Significant experience working for a general contractor/federal contractor
- Demonstrated experience managing federal construction projects and/or programs
- Experience overseeing multiple projects and project teams simultaneously
- Strong understanding of federal construction contracting and project delivery
- Experience with USACE, NAVFAC, DoD, USAF, GSA or similar federal clients strongly preferred
- Experience with IDIQ, MATOC, MACC, SATOC or similar task-order contracting environments preferred
- Design-build experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of project controls, scheduling, budgeting, cost management, subcontractor management and risk
- Ability and willingness to travel nationally as project needs require
- Important screening distinction: Candidates whose federal experience comes exclusively from working directly for USACE or another government agency will not be considered. The position requires meaningful contractor/GC-side federal construction experience.

- Growing portfolio of federal construction projects nationwide
- Direct exposure to executive leadership
- Opportunity to oversee multiple project teams and major federal programs
- Competitive and flexible executive-level compensation
