About the Role

CDOT is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to provide transportation engineering construction oversight and expertise for the Federal Boulevard Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. This multi-year project spans one of the busiest transit corridors in Metro Denver and will use the Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) alternative delivery method.

The Federal Boulevard BRT project aims to reduce travel times and improve reliability through collaboration with local partners, property owners, business owners, and other stakeholders. The project covers up to 18 miles of Federal Boulevard from 120th Ave in Westminster to Dartmouth Ave in South Denver. Learn more at the project website.

Responsibilities

• Provide construction engineering expertise and project management for the Federal Boulevard BRT project
• Coordinate with specialty units, departments, agencies, and third-party stakeholders on CM/GC activities
• Serve as CDOT’s representative and liaison to address concerns from community groups, local and federal agencies, businesses, and other stakeholders
• Attend project meetings and identify major project deliverables
• Actively track schedule, budget, and project risks to keep the project on schedule and within budget while mitigating risk
• Ensure the project is constructed with quality and sensitivity to the community
• Act as primary project contact within CDOT regarding CM/GC to ensure requirements, standards, and needs are met
• Prepare, organize, attend, and facilitate coordination and outreach meetings with stakeholders, the public, agencies, and third parties
• Manage engineering consultants, contracts, and task orders
• Monitor contractor compliance with applicable laws, safety regulations, and state, local, and federal requirements
• Evaluate work activities for safety, environmental, and quality concerns, and develop solutions
• Certify that materials incorporated during construction comply with the contract and specifications by supervising and reviewing field and laboratory test results
• Identify and elevate project decisions in conjunction with the Federal Boulevard BRT Project Director, CDOT leadership, and external agencies
• Build trust and provide clear explanations of project phases to stakeholders
• Lead a large and blended CM/GC team, coordinating with designers, consultants, and contractors

Schedule

Your schedule will primarily be 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday, with flexibility to meet work/life balance needs. There is an opportunity to work 1-2 days a week from home.

• During the design phase: 100% office-based
• During the construction phase: 50% office-based and 50% field-based

Travel is required during work hours throughout Metro Denver/Front Range. You will be required to operate CDOT vehicles and work in close proximity to heavy traffic, variable weather conditions, and variable terrain.

Requirements

• Current, valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors
• Two (2) years of professional experience in transportation engineering construction, of which one (1) year must have been as a licensed professional engineer

Substitutions: Graduate engineering courses from an accredited U.S. college or university substitute for the required two (2) years of experience on a year-for-year basis.

• If using education to qualify, a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or an official foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application
• Transcripts must show the name of the school, completed credit hours, and (if applicable) that a degree was conferred
• Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have been assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service
