FDE Subject Matter Expert (Part-time)

About the role

TripleTen is an EdTech company that designs and runs tech career learning programs for the US and Latin American markets. We've been doing it for over five years, teaching complete beginners—people with no prior tech background—through cohort-based programs built on our own platform and curriculum, developed in partnership with Nebius AI. Our team is fully remote and globally distributed, serving a large, active student base across both regions.

We're looking for someone to bring a Forward Deployed Engineering curriculum to life for students. You would be part of a team of senior authors who help create the content for the course. The ideal candidate has real-world experience deploying AI solutions in client environments, strong opinions about sound deployment practices, and the ability to articulate why certain approaches work—or don’t.

Your audience consists of working production engineers with 6–15 years of experience, primarily backend, including senior and staff engineers and occasional engineering managers. They’ve shipped real software for years and are transitioning into forward-deployed AI work. The format is asynchronous, with an estimated 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Design and build end-to-end projects for students, including scope, learning goals, technical infrastructure, environments, and supporting databases or datasets.
• Write clear submission guidelines and assessment criteria (rubrics) that reviewers can apply consistently.
• Collaborate with Learning Experience Designers to ensure projects and lessons are educationally sound, engaging, and well-paced, refining wording, difficulty calibration, and flow.
• Research, evaluate, and approve technical solutions and tooling to keep the curriculum current and aligned with employer needs.
• Contribute to sales and marketing enablement by training commercial teams on course content and graduate capabilities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional engineering experience, currently working at a senior level or above (e.g., Senior/Lead/Staff Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Architect, or technical lead on customer-facing delivery).
• Hands-on experience owning deployments end-to-end in real client or enterprise environments—from first call to production go-live and adoption.
• Practical experience with databases and infrastructure needed to run student projects (e.g., cloud environments, containers, version control, CI).
• Ability to break complex technical work into scoped, assessable tasks at defined difficulty levels.
• Strong written communication in English—you’ll produce instructional text that must be clear and unambiguous.
• Comfort collaborating cross-functionally with instructional design teams and explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring, teaching, tutoring, or reviewing others' code.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior EdTech or rubric/assessment design experience.
