FDA Interventional Radiological Imaging and Visualization (IRIS) Fellowship
About the role
The FDA Interventional Radiological Imaging and Visualization (IRIS) Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow to contribute to critical regulatory science challenges in medical technology domains. The fellowship focuses on interventional and autonomous systems, extended reality technologies, and novel imaging validation and evaluation methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Gain hands-on expertise in AI navigation and robotics systems integration, real-time imaging technologies, and performance validation protocols.
- Learn optical and x-ray system calibration, mixed-reality hardware integration, and evaluation methods for extended reality applications.
- Develop advanced skills in imaging and navigation test object fabrication using additive manufacturing, tissue-mimicking material characterization, and multi-modal imaging protocol evaluation.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or having received a master's or doctoral degree in relevant fields.
- Lived in the United States for at least 36 out of the past 60 months.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in medical device regulation, familiarity with regulatory science, and experience with AI and robotics systems. Previous experience with interventional radiology, extended reality technologies, and imaging validation is preferred.
Skills
Participants will develop skills in AI navigation, robotics systems integration, real-time imaging technologies, and performance validation protocols. They will also gain experience with optical and x-ray system calibration, mixed-reality hardware integration, and evaluation methods for extended reality applications.
Benefits
This fellowship provides extensive learning and development opportunities across three critical areas of medical device regulation: interventional and autonomous systems, extended reality technologies, and clinical validation methodologies. Fellows will also have the opportunity to work with leading experts in the field and contribute to cutting-edge research.
Pay
The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.
Schedule
The appointment will initially be for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of FDA and is contingent on the availability of funds.
