About the role
This part-time position conducts 4-H educational programs for 5th-12th grade students, including in-classroom meetings, monthly senior 4-H meetings, and weekend events. The role supports 4-H’ers with project achievement, community service projects, and competitive events. Activities vary weekly and include both indoor and outdoor settings.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-school club meetings and deliver prepared curriculum that meets state (Georgia Professional Standards) guidelines.
- Plan and coordinate programs with staff members.
- Assist 4-H’ers in preparation for competitive events, including project achievement and judging teams.
- Transport or arrange transportation for 4-H’ers to district and state-level events, providing leadership as needed.
- Incorporate program evaluations and feedback into future planning.
- Develop school break activities for youth of all ages.
- Coordinate event details, budgets, and travel logistics.
- Perform specific tasks and assume leadership for program areas as assigned by the District Extension Director or County Extension Coordinator.
- Conduct all duties in accordance with The University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Equal Opportunity plan.
- Publicize 4-H events and accomplishments through local mass media, county websites, and internet platforms.
- Submit accurate, complete reports on time in Georgia Counts, 4-H Enrollment, and to District and State 4-H offices.
- Identify, recruit, train, and recognize volunteers for 4-H programs, including assisting with 4-H Chaperone Training.
- Recruit 9- to 18-year-old students to participate in 4-H educational programs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient in typing, filing, computer skills (Windows and Microsoft Office), social media, and smartphone use.
- Strong organizational and soft skills, with knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Ability to use independent judgment and discretion with confidential information.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Critical thinking, initiative, time management, and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to pack and move boxes, handle equipment, load/unload vehicles, perform outdoor garden work, and set up rooms for program delivery.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, drive, walk, run, bend, stoop, and navigate stairs or uneven ground.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to transport youth or adult participants using county vehicles (e.g., 10-passenger van or minibus).
Pay
Advertised salary: $18,110.
Schedule
Part-time (0.475 FTE), Monday-Friday, with some nights, weekends, and travel required.
